Long story short I'm doing an independent study and using BYOND. I need a simple, basic, and unoriginal idea for a game that I can use to show my teacher. Do not ask about the class I will not respond.

I want this to show a "cooler" side of BYOND (for lack of a better word). No Anime ideas, or Medieval Knights, or corny things that would be frowned upon by other high schoolers. Also, I would prefer something completely unoriginal so that the idea is widely recognized. Lastly, no side scrollers, or anything fancy. I haven't coded in years and can't do a whole lot :P

I have tried thinking of ideas on my own but I guess I'm just too out of the mind set and can't come up with anything cool.

*EDIT* Haven't been on BYOND in years, as I said. Great to see you all. Sorry if this is the wrong board, I'm still trying to find my way around the site ;)

Ideas?
BYOND could use an implementation of the classic board game Go, and the project would not be too hard.

When I first came across this post I immediately thought of a Scorched Earth remake. But that consideration soon vanished when I saw that have not programmed for years.

After some "careful" consideration, I have come up with a few ideas that you could possibly do.

When I think of something not too complex, I think of board games, such as the one RyanP listed. Here are a few I suggest:
* Battleship
* Clue
* Checkers
* Scrabble
* Yahtzee

Of course, you could always do some of my favorites, which are mini-games:
* Chip's Challenge
* Solitare
* Mine Sweeper
* Rodent's Revenge
Please do note that you could always view the Microsoft Entertainment Package, which is where the mini-games I listed came from.

It already exists.

@Andre-g1:

Othello is *not* Go.

@Oldbie:

Checkers, Scrabble, Yahtzee, Solitaire, and Minesweeper have already been ported to BYOND, and perhaps I've overlooked a few. Not that they couldn't be done better, though.

I officially love you now. Haha.

hub://Dever.Go already exists, but I don't like it. I've been on at least twice when there was another player on and I couldn't figure out the interface at all to try and get a game actually started.
Well, you might want to look into the new spiffy interface options if you haven't.

You could make something like a chat game, or social game, or find some off the wall checkers variation from another country. Simple and foreign usually make for decent projects.

Also, how about if you integrate it in with one of your other courses. Find a subject at hand (history/science/social studies) and make a game out of it. That sometimes can make your other subjects more entertaining because it becomes immediately useful.

One last suggestion. Pull something out of the current social/politic scene. As an example, I played a game where you could aim and throw a shoe at the president. That kind of pointless game always goes over well with friends. Look at the Sunday comics or online for political cartoons to try and get some funny ideas. Think player vs player where they do BLAH (political thing) to one another and whoever does BLAH first, wins. Short, funny, simple, done.

I guess I have to say this after saying all that... choose something that won't get you suspended... right...

Good luck and welcome back.

Oh, I'm sorry then, from what I read about Go it seemed pretty similar.
