So now I have to be a member to create a hub?
Yes.
If someone could give me a good reason that'd be great.

BYOND needs to generate revenue to be sustainable. It was determined that being able to advertise directly on the BYOND hub was a valuable feature, but not a necessity to create a game (because you can still advertise your game externally anywhere on the internet). Tom wants to keep the software free, so charging for extra features like a hub entry is the best way to keep the project afloat.

Because BYOND was running out of money and it isn't cheap to host an infinite number of HUBS that people keep cranking out for their Naruto, DBZ, and Bleach rips in addition to maintaining the site and updating the tools. You can still use the tools to create and host your game, but you'll have to find your own way to get it out there to the players (i.e. make a website or just link players directly to the server).
There wasn't an infinite number of hubs. We just passed 100,000 hubs in October.
Ok, that makes sense. I guess it may be an advantage, because there are more people you can give the link of your server to on the web than just BYOND.
