Fellow dream makers

I haven't programmed anything in BYOND for a very long time. I just haven't had any desire to. I have other things to do with my time now. I'm in the process of buying a house and going to school. I'm a busy person these days. The only reason why I've stuck around this long is the community.

I've long seen this place going down hill. I respect Tom very much and many of the programmers around here. However, one thing I've noticed is that with the ability to create dreams comes a massive ego for many. A community of egos makes for alot of debating over petty things.

GuitarBook gets a new cover

http://guitarbook.ebonshadow.net/

I created the template for it. Not really my strong point, but it works. I am pretty fond of the banner though.

Opinions on AllOfMp3.com

Lately I've been experimenting with different music sites, namely Yahoo! LaunchCAST and Napster. I enjoyed Yahoo for a very long time. I would recommend that over Napster to anybody who wants to be able to listen to a variety of music on their computer for a low price. It's cheaper than Napster and provides the same features. Napster has slightly better choice of music but not enough to make it worth it. Yahoo has alot of cool features that will help you find new music.

The problem came when I wanted to take some of these mp3s on my iPod. Neither of these sites provide MP3s. They provide copy-protected WMAs, which is all fine and dandy because some MP3 players can play these I guess. Not an iPod though. I prefer to own CDs rather than just the mp3 anyway. If you were to browse my iPod, you wouldn't find a single album on there that I do not own. However, lately I've been wanting to explore alot of music without having to wait until I buy the CD. I'd rather listen on my iPod than on my computer for many reasons (better sound system setup for iPod, don't need to sit at my computer, etc.)

Downloading the music using a p2p client is not something I'm interested in. Not because it's illegal, but because you just can't find ALOT of artists that way. The fact that's illegal doesn't help any.

I am testing out AllOfMp3.com right now, and I have to say, I like it alot. I'm pretty sure it's not 100% legal from what I've read. I haven't looked into it alot though.

Anyway, the site has an amazing database of music. I was even able to find a few Dream Theater bootlegs. And you can't beat the price. At a $1.5 a cd, it's a steal. Mainly, I'm impressed with the music selection, which is definitely the best I've seen so far.

[Edit]I'd just like to point out that the reason legality isn't too much of an issue to me is because I'll end up either deleting the mp3s or buying the cds in the end.

GuitarBook

I tried this before and failed miserably, but I figured I'd give it another go. I have more time to contribute to this now. Basically, I wanted to create a wiki site for guitar related information.

You can find it here:
http://guitarbook.ebonshadow.net/

When/if it starts to pick up, I'll buy a domain name for it. I really haven't added a whole lot to it yet but I will tonight. I have to go to work soon. If you feel like contributing, you can edit any page without even creating an account. Creating an account is free. This is basically a blank wikipedia. Eventually I plan to program some sort of syntax parser for tab, kind of like an html version of powertab. Until then, you can upload images exported from powertab and link to them.

Thanks for the recommendations!

I've been listening to alot of techno and jazz as of late. I've researched composing jazz music quite a bit and experimented with techno beats. My latest song attempts to borrow from both while still maintaining my style. Check it out here:
