So after taking a break from BYOND. I was convinced by a couple friends to create a game. I started brainstorming ideas for my design.doc when I started to think. Why even make a byond game if I'm just going to get ripped? Namely icons and design.

http://www.byond.com/games/Neimo/BleachLasNoches
http://www.byond.com/games/Bustercannon/LasNoches

Take a Look at both those games. The second link is the original which was taken down a while ago. The first link is a carbon copy rip of the first one. Ripped to be made exactly like the original and coded from scratch. So why make a byond game when popular ones are more than likely to get ripped. Now regardless if the rip is listed or not. The fact is they took the time to rip it and make it EXACTLY like the original.

Note: I used an anime game as an example but it happens to more games than anime. And no the game I was thinking of creating wouldn't have been anime.
It's a hobby, not a job. If you don't want your work to be stolen, then don't work on it here.
A game doesn't have to be made in DM for me to rip the graphics. Look at how many BYOND games use sprites from GBC games?

If your game is created well, there won't be any rips of it. Consider Decadence and NEStalgia - the reason why there are no rips is not because it's impossible to take their graphics, but the games are too complex for someone to just whip up an exact copy. You would have to spend the same amount of time if not more to duplicate these games, and usually rippers don't have that much patience.
That's because noobs are sprite rippers/use different extractors on their emulators and illegal roms.

But then I'd go back to my old ways.
I got your stuff, Empirez.
I'll be waiting in the ally as always.

Truth, but it is easier to rip on byond. And I don't consider NEStalgia a good game so that example is invalid to me. I have seen games using decadence icons. Not many use the mob icon because of how its made. It's not a base that you can snatch up and put in your game to do w/e you want.

You're wrong about needing to spend the same amount of time to duplicate the game. Rip Bleach las noches was created within 3 months. Original BLN has been up for years.

@masterdarwin: Your retarded comment does not answer my question.
Wait, are you making a fan-game?
Okay, this is the internet in a lazy world.
There are always going to be those lazy children who who will steal what you've done whether it's art, concepts, or an entire game but you know what?

Deal with it.

If you can't or won't deal with the inevitable than don't develop a game. Simple as that.

No.

@Kumorii: Your critical comment does not answer my question. You tend to dance around the answer with a demeaning comment making it seem like i'm raging and etc etc.
It's ultimately up to you, but yeah, in the general case, I think it's worth it.

Your question was; "Is it worth making a BYOND game?". It's clearly stated in the title of this post.
As far as my answer, I gave you a valid answer. If you can tolerate the inevitability that your art and concept may be stolen, than go for it. If you can't or won't, than don't.

Secondly, I didn't imply you were raging in the least bit. I was clearly answering your question with the blatant obvious answer.

Developing a game regardless of what happens to it is always an interesting and enjoyable process. Just develop what YOU want and fuck what might happen.
Have you made a BYOND game before?

Mhm. Nothing MORPG size though.

@Kumorii: You danced around an answer. I'm not asking for some long drawn out falacy type answers. Just a simple answer like Stephen gave was what I was looking for. And it's not an inevitability if it might not happen.

It's only retarded because I was replying to Empire.

Anyway, if you want to be like that then no, don't waste your time making a BYOND game. Use flash or something.

I'm referring to your first comment.
I didn't dance around an answer.
I was trying to help, but since you're being a bitch to everybody who tries to explain their reason, don't develop a game.
