Could the splash screen display download speed?
Also, why does it seem to download multiple resource packs for most games o.O I'm sure they all only have one, I know mine do.
Also why is it displayed in bytes? Is it just because most BYOND projects are assumed to be rather small? Most games are in the MB range, and bytes is just an odd/rare unit.

Memory can be more accurately displayed in bytes, since it's a smaller unit. For instance: 9.29 MB vs. 9,748,409 bytes. But I bias my preference in that I simply like accuracy.

It is more accurate, but that's about the only advantage. Its difficult to convert to anything relevant in your head. I'd say kb is the best/most common for just about everything.
It could automatically determine the appropriate unit to display based on total size, though that would be somewhat odd and inconsistent. It also doesn't display commas if I recall. | |
You can approximate a conversion by stating that 1024 ~= 1000. By this you can shift the decimal point to the left three digits to yield an approximate value for KB, and three more for MB. But it might be nice if it were to display in parenthesis how many KB the resources take up if below 1MB, else display in MB.

That's been brought up before (possibly even by me o.O). And I can't really see how it would be too difficult to set up. But they claim its not feasible. Ham: The 10 seconds that it would take them to add it shouldn't really be a problem. And considering the way you responded to that request of yours for transparency editing, your responses here are idiotic. | |
I think it's this sort of "fluff" that BYOND really needs.
Small, relatively easy-to-implement features like this would really make BYOND seem more polished. | |

i agree with the whole "customizing the download screen" thing. I mean...whats stopping it from happening besides it being a "fluff" feature that could actually be good. i mean the download screen makes BYOND games and BYOND look less polish than it actually is(You'd be surprised at how much effect graphics and all visual content had on a person's choice, in this case the choice is wether or not they should try BYOND).

Would be nice to show download speed & show up in different units, actually ANY kind of choice at the least even if not changed to show different units automatically would be better than nothing.
For example, internet explorer usually shows Mb/s or Kb/s for me & really I would have liked mb/s (megabits instead of megabytes) seeing as how megabits is what the internet speed is rated in so you could see how much of the internet connection your utilizing instead of doing the math yourself, although this conversion is a relatively easy ones most of the units talked of here to convert from/to aren't nearly as easy at a glance. | |
