Xoiden posted in BYOND Casual about having "finally got some updates done" on his Othello game, and the end result is pretty fair. It could use a 4.0 interface overhaul, but the actual gameplay is decent. I played against the AI and lost. The fact that this game even has AI is good and qualifies it to be a part of the single player games guild, but the fact that the AI beat me is even better.

While playable the game does still seem to be a bit buggy. Some bits of information aren't labeled right, the setup process is awkward, the AI seems to animate stuff while its thinking, and the AI keeps thinking after the game is finished. All things that I'm hoping will be soon corrected.

Wow, I tried the game too, and lost to the AI twice.
Kudos to Xoiden for a job well done.

I beat the AI on my first try. And I got the Apprentice medal :D
Was pretty hard, though. And is it really called Othello? I thought there was another name for it.

Edit: Played again, I froze the AI. It had 2 pieces left, no places to go.

Win. Now give me my Master medal, I'm controlling a lot of the board there.
Reversi might be the other name you are thinking about. It is similar however there are no defined starting positions. Othello originated in the 1970s where the name was trademarked as Othello, which was chosen as a reference to the Shakespearean play by the same name.

I updated it to fix the bugs pointed out, fixed a couple others I found, and cleaned things up a bit.

Enjoy
The game appears to report your winning score only the first time you win - not only did the Standings not report any of my wins (making the Total Wins category meaningless), it also did not report when I beat my high-score: Black wins 47-17.
The AI is pretty easy to beat, actually.
I could give you tips on an algorithm that's bound to be more difficult.
