Tiny Heroes

I haven't had a lot of time to work on any projects lately, but this is what I've been working on the most. I've added warps so you can transition from one z level to another. I also added two new kinds of enemies and started working on the first dungeon.

My plan is that the different kinds of areas will create a nice mix of action/platform content. The dungeons will have tricky puzzles and platforming challenges, the boss fights will be more action (think Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Mega Man, etc.), and the areas between the dungeons will be more casual platforming/exploration.

I'm not sure how I want to include the RPG elements. I'd like players to be able to play through all the dungeons without having to delve into the RPG elements. Everyone has to select a major and minor class, but you can make it through all the dungeons even if you don't care about what weapon you have equipped.

I'm leaning towards making optional content that makes better use of the RPG elements. Each dungeon you complete gives you a level up. Once you complete all of the dungeons you've unlocked all abilities and have access to most areas. You then, essentially, start the RPG part of the game. There are extra dungeons that might require better equipment, but they don't give level ups for completion and aren't strictly required.

I've been telling myself that this is a platformer first and RPG second - I didn't intend to stick to that idea so literally, but it seems to make the most sense. If you want to play the game for it's action/platform elements, I don't want the RPG elements getting in the way.

Sidescroller

Sometime today or tomorrow the library will likely reach the 1,000 download mark. I keep an eye out for people using the library, but being a little generous I'd say there are 20 projects that use it. If this was baseball my batting average would be 0.020. Jim Abbott has me beat!

I added anime-style hair overlays to the library in the last update, luckily FUNimation missed it!

There are still a couple of features that have been bothering me for about as long as the library has existed. I've been meaning to add better support for scrolling backgrounds. I know exactly how I want it to work, I just haven't bothered to sit down and write the code to do it.

The other thing is camera control. I know what I want to achieve I'm just not sure how to implement it. I'd like the developer to be able to define the camera's behavior for different parts of the map. It would make the most sense to use areas, but having to use areas for camera control might interfere with other uses of areas.

A Miner Adventure

I've been fixing bugs here and there but haven't had time to work on new content. I don't expect it to be ready anytime soon, but I'm hoping to extend the adventure mode in the next update - add more types of enemies and make it more free-roaming.

Pixel Movement

I haven't worked on this library in a while but it could really use an update. I would have expected this library to see more use than Sidescroller because there are fewer things you need to know to use it. Maybe a good demo will help.
I think it's for a lone player, but I've been meaning to ask whether you've taken a look at Twisted Tower for another take on platformer RPGs. =)
No, but from looking at the screenshots it seems like something I should check out.
