A lot of game creators add a Subscribing option to the game so they can make a little bit of a profit for it, some people disagree with this and think game creators are being selfish, what do you think?

I personally think its good for game creators to make a profit out of their hard work and im happy to subscribe to games really, because they deserve it, im just wondering what everyone else thinks.
I agree with donations, but not subscription advantages.

If I ever put a subscript into one of my games (COMING SOON HONEST!!!!111), I'd give them extra stuff- but not neccessarily advantageous stuff. Variation. This might not give people an incentive to subscribe, but then again, I probably wouldn't mind if they did or didn't.

It would be a little "Thankyou" for a donation.

Most people think subscription advantages are more appealing and make you want to give money anyway, but i disagree if the advantages make you better at a game, but its ok if they just add extras.

Ah, yes, but what about subscriptions unlocking certain (Rather small) parts of the world, would you consider that bad? I don't like the advantages that i've seen some games offer. Like, (clears throat), "Subscribe now, and you get 50 extra skills, 3000 extra strength and free GM!!11111111oneoneoeneoneelevenelevenelevenonehundredandelev enonehundredandeleven," because that is just EXTREMELY annoying.

I agree with subscriptions that give more, perhaps different stuff, but not better stuff. Subscribers shouldn't have an advantage over non-subscribers. For example, a subscriber-only class is fine if it's balanced with the non-subscriber classes, but if the subscriber class is bettr, then that's a bad use of subscription.

client/New()
if(subscriber) .=..()

(Not calling .=..() on client/New() causes an auto-boot)
I agree with Ter13, donations are fine, but subscriptions (especially to gain an advantage in game) are not. I hate when games give you the basic, crappy items when you do not subscribe. A good example of this is Star Traders. You get the smallest, crappy newbie ships to start with, hardly any fuel, cannot control anything, and fuel is scarce, but if you subscribe then this is no problem. When you are a subscriber to this game, you get fuel from certain stations (the ones you always see), thirteen awesome ships, you can control things, ETC. now, this is totally and udderly unfair. This is one reason why I refuse to play this game.

A good example of donations is Seika. They do not recommened any donating but they allow it. I like that. They made about $1,000 (maybe more) from free donating, without gaining any advantages. It is great.

Star traders is what got me thinking about this actually, i was thinking about subscribing but i mean only subscribers can save (when its implemented) that kinda sucks.

It's bad game design, period. There shouldn't be any one tactic, class, or whatever in the game, that is so good/powerful/whatever that it's the only one that players ever use.

Stop with the joke. Not because it isn't funny, but because a moderator will go and close the entire topic because it's become too chatty.

It varies really, as all things do. If you put enough work into a BYOND game that you think that you deserve somesort of monetary gain from that effort, then so be it. But my beef is that too many people write generally unimpressive games and expect money for minimal effort.

Personally, I've put a lot of work into my BYOND games and still don't feel that any yet deserve me to make money from them. That said, there's very few games in all of BYOND that I think deserve the owner to make cash on. But heck, this is all quite opinionated. :)

One of those few being MLAAS? :-P. Yes, it is all quite based on opinion. I don't like being paid for doing work for someone, or being paid for making a game(Donations), mostly because I feel that my work isn't GOOD enough for donations, or any of the sort. But, eventually, in this game i'm working on, I will probably have just certain missions and stuff available to subscribers, but nothing like, "For 5$, you get all this stuff that is the best of the best, like you get the best armor, the best guns, the best EVERYTHING."

My work is good enough for donations- infact, all of you should post money to me right now.
In response to Lenox
If people have enough money to throw around on stuff like that, then sure it's worth it.

For someone like me, however, blowing money on a "MLaaS" subscription would be worthless.
