Single / Cooperative Games on BYOND

Just wondering, is there much of an interest in the BYOND community for a single / cooperative game? Such as an original RPG with a completable storyline (i.e. Zelda etc)?

Essentially I'm wondering if people would pick up an RPG made for BYOND to play from start to finish, whether it be alone or with a group of players?

... If so anyone (with provable experience in their field of expertise) willing to collaborate? It just seems to be an interesting idea at the moment...

Addon System

Poll: Well, anyways people, what do you think?

Balancing Addons 28% (2)
Flat out advantage Addons with a limit to the amount equipable 28% (2)
A combination of the two 42% (3)

I'm currently working on a little system to add stuff to equipment in game (i.e. in a fantasy setting give a weapon fire damage capabilities or say a modern setting add a laser sight to a gun for increased accuracy).

Now what I want to know is if people prefer systems like this when there is a measure of balance required (such as addon A gives +10 to hit points but also makes you more succeptible to blunt attacks) or if they give flat out advantages.

Currently I'm tossing up between the two, with the intent of balancing the flat out advantage idea by introducing an addon point counter (each equipment piece can only have x addon points).

Thinking about it now, a hybrid of the two might also be a viable alternative...

More on Dead Zero

Well here's just a little run down of some of the features already in place within D.Z.

Quest System
Completley dynamic, allowing for varied and extended questing. Supports quest chaining (whereas quests will hae prereuesite quests that need to be completed before they can be offered) which is a huge component of the world storyline.

So far the quest basic types available are:
- Delivery (Take x to y)
- Retrieval (Get x from y)
- Item Collection (Gather 20 x's)
- Assasination (Group [Kill 10 x's] or Single [Kill x at y])

I'm also considering escort quests but am still deciding. As it stands each quest type can be linked to any other, such as "Go get the pistol from Tommy" [return with pistol / new quest offered] "Kill Tommy with his own gun!".

Note: system was built with the ability for players to fund their own quests in game... ;)

Semi-Automated Combat and AI
A combat system where mobs will chase you if you target them, will attack each other if they are enemies, will remember who has attacked them in the past and will also call for reinforcements if they see you as a threat.

Independant hand control ("He burst into the bar with his sawn-off shotgun blazing in one hand and his knife swinging in the other.") will allows for you to customise your combat style to suit you.

Evolved damage system where different attacks will have different effects based on different armor types (different enough?).

PsychoKinetic Power
Created, but not implemented yet. Still deciding on this one due to storyline conflicts.

Well thats about all I care to write right now, feel free to contact me here if you wanna chat about the game, or even via pager.

Work On Dead Zero...

Well I've had soem down time form University so I've also had soem time to do a bit of work on Dead Zero (my post apocolyptic game). Here's just a couple of screenies of the game so far (void of any explanation other than a title... 'Cos I'm lazy!).

Demo Version Beginning Point

Inside Tunnel

Conversation Window for a Quest

NPC Barter Window

Sample Wooded Area

Just like to note that all the artwork is my own, with the exception of the base mob, whom is credited to a good friend of mine.

That is all.

Stuff I'm doing, stuff I've done.

Well seeing as MCF bought me a BYOND membership I suppose that I’ll make use of it and give anyone who’s interested a little idea of what may or may not be available from me in the future.

Dead Zero

Some info:

- Post apocalyptic
- Action / RPG (utilises modified GURPS rules for combat etc)
- Skill based environment interactions (lock picking, examinations, medical practice etc)
- Semi realistic injury and status ailments system (broken bones need to be set by someone who knows the skill, no miracle cure for all health issues, headaches etc)
- Dynamic mission system based from the needs of a town (i.e. a specific town is running out of canned food, jobs will arise to hunt the surrounds for possible food supplies or even to clean out factories)
- Crime elements, persistent personalities, mass raids on towns by monsters (ooh) and raiders, military service
- Much, much more

The game is essentially based on a man made disaster that has decimated a good percentage of both the earth and its population amongst other major effects. In that light, weapons are very much items of opportunity. Guns are rare, ammunition rarer. More often than not players will find themselves fighting hand to hand with their enemies with nothing more than a rusty bar or piece of wood, such is the nature of this future.

I’m going for as much open-endedness as possible. This means that anything I can think of that is relevant to the gaming world will hopefully be possible (for example the town I’m working on at the moment has a generator active for power in underground areas, it is possible to turn this off and plunge the place into darkness and thusly take advantage of the inhabitants).

Hopefully I can get an RPing community active as it’s my intention to hold events as regularly as feasible (reclaim a town from raiders, defend a town, mass gatherings, and much more!) with the possibility of persistent staff an player characters that have an impact on the game world.

A lot more has already been completed for this game than I’ve written down, and with any luck I can get something out soon. Been working on it too long and I just want people to enjoy it already!

More to come later!
