Hey, does anyone know why mp3's can't be used? I have seen a few post on the subject and people have said that dan&tom can't get the "right's" or that mp3's are to big and cuase lag does anyone know why(for sure) conframation from dantom on the subject.
The belongs in BYOND Q&A.

In answer to your question, the legal answer is that Dantom would have to pay for the license to use the MP3 algorithm. It's a similar situation to the GIF problem, although that's quickly disappearing.

There or Off-Topic.

:P

I chose to move it to Off-Topic because I figured this thread usually devolves into a discussion of patents and compression schemes and layering and other made-up things that sound engineers and programmers make up*.

*Note: Any topic in which Lexy doesn't already know most everything, doesn't exist.

conframation?

after searching google i get FIVE pages (!!) of 'conframation' esque posts... and from what I've read so far, in each and every one of them it should be confirmation.. normally I wouldn't bring this up, but it was obviously spelt phonetically, thereby meaning he said it wrong... Which if I ever heard someone pronounce confirmation in such a way I would laugh at them, and probably slap them upside the head.. just wanted to bring that to your attention

actually this has been discussed many times already- myself and several others even offered the suggestion of using ogg vorbis as an alternative music codec for BYOND... it's free and would certainly give us the same level of quality as mp3's.
