I've read that if you want to crowd fund, you need to get your inner-circle to donate at the start. That way other people will see that you have momentum. People like to support "winners," and crowd funding is a little like gambling.

So that's you. BYOND, my inner gaming circle. Even if you can't donate a lot, a small $5 donation at this point builds momentum, and can add up to a lot later on. It shows that there's fan base, and excitement about the project. This is your chance to Amplify your effect.

Above are some samples of the sort of art I want to commission. And here's a sample of the sort of music my composer can make... if I raise enough to pay her: Into nowhere - III by Nell Shaw Cohen.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback, let me know. I'll be glad to discuss anything about the game.

Cheers!

Here's that campaign link again.
I will make a donation after I convince my wife to let me.
Links fixed. Thanks for the notice, A.T.H.K.

Or spam your friends with the link instead. :)
I'll definitely support this. I hope this endeavor goes well for you, Iain.
Electrodancer?
If I didn't have so much going on myself, I would definitely donate as soon as possible. I do wish you a lot of luck with this, though, and I'll more than likely be a fan. Videos of the original Casual Quest were really interesting.
I just donated $200.00 to your campaign and tweeted about it to my 18,000 followers on twitter. I really support you and what you're doing. Good luck!
Is there an option to fund your beard, specifically?
Okay I'll be the one to ask: How long did the beard take to grow?

No but really I saw in your video you said it would be playable through a web browser, are you banking on a BYOND web client or are you not producing it with BYOND? Just curious is all.
Jacob has produced an HTML5 demo... Whether that is part of this specific campaign or not is Jacob's call but I would have to assume its not. However, his HTML5 demo is network capable!
I'll be supporting this, good luck Iain

For anyone wondering about this demo, you can find it here: http://antlerpig.com/casual_quest
Kicked in a hundred. Will see about potentially getting some of my friends in on this.

Good luck with this, man. Get some more info about the game itself out there, and you'll definitely make it.
Excited to see how this progresses. Keep us updated!
Thanks folks! You really kicked in today and I'm so thankful! It was awesome to wake up today at 3pm (yes, yesterday was a long day) and see that several hundred dollars had been donated. You rock!

Now, let's answer some questions:

D4RK3 54B3R:
Electrodancer?

There will be at least 10 prestige classes, available to supporters of $15 or more. These will be twists on current classes, like an Ice Mage option, instead of the regular (fire) Mage. I haven't decided on all the prestige classes, so Electrodancer could be one, if you could figure out which class it was most similar to.

Also, depending on how much we raise I want to add special statues of heros to the game. You'd find a statue while exploring, and touching it gives you the choice to transform into the special class stored in the statue. I'm thinking this would be for awesome and OP classes, like an Arch Angel that floats and has giant wings, or something. Anything could be made for a statue, but those are stretch goals.

That possibility exists now that I cut it down to a more reasonable length :P
How about we set a goal, and if we meet it, I dye my hair pink. ;)

My barber trims it down to about a half inch every month. That month I asked him to leave it long... so about two months? I feel like it's longer than that, like the first 1/4 inch takes two months to grow.

No but really I saw in your video you said it would be playable through a web browser, are you banking on a BYOND web client or are you not producing it with BYOND? Just curious is all.

The basic game engine is already done, including a client and networking. The client is an HTML5 client, the networking is over Websockets, the server runs on Node.js, and uses MongoDB for storage. I love BYOND, and I try to send traffic back here when I can, but at this point in my life I need to be using industry standard tools.

As Raimo pointed out, there was a link to a demo of the game engine, but I took that down last night - from a non-gamer perspective, it doesn't represent the project at all. My next big goal should be to produce a simple demo that does represent the project... that's actually an idea I had just now. Thanks Raimo!

Thank you FireKing, Ter13, and everyone else who's going to try to kick in what they can. It means a lot to me :)

I've got a new video showing off the old gameplay (not very interesting for BYOND folk) and the new graphics (more interesting). I hope you'll be surprised. I was going to thank people by name, but then I noticed that some people had marked their contributions as anonymous, so I decided to play it safe.
