Challenge: Get Something Done!

Ahoy! Today is the 1st 2nd of May, and I challenge you to Get Something Done this month!

Every September we have the Game in a Day (GiaD) challenge where developers slash features and rush to stomp out the last bugs, all in the effort to have something, anything, finished by the end of the day. We on BYOND aren't used to finishing projects, and many of us have called ourselves "game developers" for years without ever having finished a game!

This month, those who take this challenge will change that. If you want to participate, all you have to do is say so, announce your project (you can change this later), and try to make it happen. Unlike the GiaD, though, your project doesn't have to be something completely new. In fact, I encourage you to finish an old abandoned project. Do you have an almost finished game in your projects folder? Something that could be played, perhaps, but it has an ugly interface, one or two bugs, and you never did finish that mind reading telekinetic AI? Well, ditch the AI, fix (or sufficiently hide) the bugs, tweak the interface, and release it!

This month isn't about making the best game ever, it's about being a game maker, and game makers make games. So join your fellow developers and I in Getting Something Done!

Edit: As per request, I have set up a forum so there is a central place to discuss the event:
Peregrination: Challenges

Throughout this month I will be posting articles on developing games. Instead of focusing on "how to program" or "how to make art" these articles will discuss topics such as "How to Prevent Feature Bloat" and "Planning Out Your Game", and other topics that will be helpful to developers trying to start a project that they will be able to finish. Tomorrow I'll be posting the first article, which will be based on fleshing out the initial idea for a game.

Feel free to post your own articles or tips on meeting deadlines, or planning out a game. I will also be posting updates on anything related to the challenge, so please send me a link if you find or write anything other developers may find helpful.

P.S. Got a better name than "Get Something Done" or "Finish It"? I'd love to hear it.

I'm going to be working on a certain unfinished project of mine. :]

Not telling which though.

My RPG, Dream Forge, has been needing combat for years now; I suppose this would be a good opportunity to change that.

In honor of this I will attempt to actually get the AI done in Artillery.

So in honor of this movement, I vow to put up the update to Murder Mansion by the end of the month...

Of course, that's cheating a little, since my work on the update was likely to be finished within the month, anyways...lol

I was wondering how long it would take before I'd have to reject that.

I'll submit Cathedral as my May "Get er done" (That's my name submission) effort.

The project is currently in Beta 1 and I'm working on Beta 2. This might be a good incentive to crank out some work instead of playing games. :)

Please let me know if I have to do anything else. It would be good if there were a static posting with official dates, rules, submission info and etc.

I would try my hand at this contest, but I'm grounded for an indefinite amount of time. It's for a fail reason, too.

For anyone wondering, I've been posting on an iPod for the last few days; carpal tunnel FTW.

The problem with that is I'd need to remake it from scratch, I don't possess any backups for it and I lost all the files when my last computer died. I do plan on remaking it in the future however.

I started at 6:30 AM and ended at 9:30 PM. Not straight of course, then I'd have the AI done. ;)

Might get sidetracked fairly quickly because of forthcoming exams though, but I'll try my best.

I actually don't look much like Captain Ahab anymore. That beard style is several weeks gone by.

I will be getting something done in my zelda game. It's been sitting there gathering dust for too long now.

My plans are to actually finish the begining cutscene, save system, and at least get to the first dungeon, if not create and finish it. It's alot to do in a month, but I usually get alot done when I get into it.
For those of you that know me well, you know I am terrible with deadlines. We'll see how I do with this.
