I hated it. Light was smart enough to realize that all the people he used made stupid mistakes on their own, and as such, the cleanest (lol, not really) method to kill Near and everyone on the investigation teams would have been to cause Matsuda (who was obviously emotionally unstable) to start a fire fight. All he had to do was write out a detailed description of said fight in advanced, considering he knew the exact date and time of the meeting. Even if he had managed to kill the investigation through heart attacks like he planned, the police would probably infer he was Kira based on the fact that he was the only surviving member of both teams.

That's just my two cents, it was a great series other than that.

You know I always question 3 things

1) Why the fuck didn't they look for fingerprints on the book?

2) When they find murder evidence, don't they usually do forensic stuff on it?

3) At the end, Mikami could have wrote Light's name down in the notebook, but not have thought about his face. That way, there would be no proof that Light was really Kira.

Light could have ripped out the pages he used and burned them. If you think about it, the never said anything about the names written in the notebook (well, except for when Near got the book, but they already knew whose handwriting it was then).

If i was Kira i would have eliminated aizawa especially since in the show the made him look so suspicious. That should have gave light a hint but I guess the writers didn't want him to know, especially since aizawa played a major part in nears plan.

That would have guaranteed that Light was Kira. Like I said, Near's plan could have been foiled so simply, and in a manner that wouldn't incriminate Light.

i can't really remember but, they did do this, didn't then? When L was around and they were in the helicopter, he mentioned something about it.

This wouldn't have worked. Like when Light first met L in that college place and he used the alias as that actor. Light said he would write the name but he might accidentally think of the famous actor instead and end up killing him. Mikami only just found out who was 'god' and that image would've probably stayed in his head for a good while.

It's not like Light couldn't have told Naomi to tell Mikami his name. Since he trusted Mikami, and plus, he said everything was going as planned when him an Near were going to meet.

I thought the ending was good. It had nothing to do with Light doing anything wrong. He would've won if it wasn't for Mikami's screw up.

In hindsight, there were a lot of things that could've happened, like your theory Jeff. However, as you said he could've prepared the fight in advance, I don't think it would've been possible since he didn't know the exact time. Remember how Near was waiting for an hour or so to see if anybody was under the influence of the notebook? Also, Matsuda wouldn't be able to kill everyone before he gets killed himself if you're saying that he started shooting during that hour wait.

But Light told Mikami to do nothing out of the norm or anything serious. Just continue with killing criminals.

The series was really good, but the whole second season was watered down and not nearly as good as the first, so the ending wasn't that great.

While the live action movie they made was all sorts of terrible (mainly the special effects and acting), it actually had a better ending than the series.
