Cake!

I love cake!

Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Jackson, Schecter...

I've recently picked up guitarism. I bought a pretty cheap guitar quite awhile back, a small combo amp, and I've slowly been learning how to play in my spare time for the past few (quite a while). But lately I've become a little more serious with it. For the first bit, I barely touched it (hardly learned anything). But for some reason I've got this spark of motivation.

I've bought some nice equipment including some very nice headphones and a bunch of other crap that'll make playing much more enjoyable. I also bought some Dunlop XL Jazz III and Dunlop Ultex Jazz III guitar picks, I bought a new strap (the one that came with it was way to small), and I plan on buying a new guitar in a couple of months. I wanna get a nice amplifier as well, and I was looking at the Line 6 Spider III. A little expensive, but it looks like a really good amp.

I'm kind of a noob as far as guitar equipment goes. I don't know what's good, what's bad, what makes what happens with what, or anything like that. So since I live out in the middle of nowhere, I plan on going to the next town to a Guitar Center (that's the only shop I KNOW is there) and playing around with the guitars and equipment. But in the mean time, I've just been looking around at guitars and guitarists and wondering what I would like to play.

Here are some models I'm considering at the moment:
Stratocaster (naturally)
Ibanez RG1550M
Gibson SG
Ibanez JEM7V
Schecter Hellraiser

There are a lot of other guitars I'd like to look at as well. The Telecaster for one, seems like a pretty interesting guitar (although considering its "playing style," it's probably not for me). I'm also interested in the Les Paul (like the Stratocaster, seems to be one of the more popular models from what I've seen).

Of course, this is just what I WANT. I have no professional knowledge on any of the models. I don't know the specifications or anything like that. All I know is that I've seen people play them, and they sounded really awesome. A lot of guitarists in bands I like use them, so naturally they interest me.

I'd like to avoid spending thousands of dollars on a guitar when I've only managed to learn some of the basics, but since there are a lot of really cool places that let you use the guitar for awhile and make small payments monthly, I think I could easily pull it off.

Anyway, just thought I'd make this post... I've been putting about an hour into practice for the past few days, and although I'm not as awesome as I'd like to be, but practice makes perfect, and I'm enjoying it.

If you have any tips, hints, suggestions, or cheat codes, go ahead and leave a comment.

I own the Ibanez and it's great as far as Sound Goes.

The Floyd Rose is a really awesome feature allowing a greater range of techniques and sound. Yes, it takes a little more effort than a standard bridge, but I really suggest going with it.

This video shows how simple it really is:

I don't like the floyd rose either. Just get the schecter c-1. it doesn't have a floyd rose system.

Ok, I decided to look up the Schecter C-1 FR and the Floyd Rose system, and the setup for the tremolo system seems like it takes a lot of work just to tune it and even worse, change the strings.

I watched a video of a guy explain it, and it seems like it's a whole lot of hassle... but what are the advantages of the system? Being able to pull the whammy bar is pretty cool, but it seems like so much extra work for no good reason.

Anyone wanna enlighten me?

The SG Standard isn't really the guitar you shoot for in this situation, where Keeth is just starting to pick up and get into it. It's like buying an awesome gaming rig to check your e-mail. Wait until he gets serious before dropping over a grand on a guitar.

For generic rock, I'd say the C-1 FR (not Hellraiser, but if you want it, go for it) should really work out well. It has active pickups and a Floyd Rose tremolo. The hellraiser is an extra $400 because it comes with EMG active pickups (which you could put in yourself for about $150-$200), and that's about it.

Out of the ones you listed, I'd go for Gibson SG or the Stratocaster (naturally). I'm not sure what the Hellraiser is like though but I've heard it's pretty good.

The Ibanez JEM7v is probably the best there for sound since i reckon it's the most versatile for different types of rock music. I wouldn't mind it though because of the price :o And then you'd need a decent amp that can tame the guitar :p

What you play is very very very dependent on what music you play. The Hellraiser is a really nice guitar, but you're probably better off just going with the standard C-1 FR, and if it doesn't put out the sound you like, you can always throw in the EMGs yourself later on (and still save about two hundred bucks). I've been eyeing this guitar for years, just don't have the cash to pick it up.

Also, which Spider III are you looking at? There's all sorts of (15W, 30W, 75W...) If you're looking at something like this (2x75W), you might be better off going with a head and cab. Of course, that's my own setup so I'm a little biased.

no matter what they play in concert, a lot of songs are recorded on a strat or tele. they're just not in style, so they won't use them in a show. i think most strats and teles are ugly, but the jim adkins telecaster is a pretty nice looking piece of work. my dad owned a couple schecters and he said they were okay, but there were better guitars out there. not sure if he owned a hellraiser though. you really don't need a thousand dollar guitar, i wouldn't recommend spending more than a grand.
