I've realized that I still watch Dragonball Z a lot, and I have been for nearly seven straight years. Now an adult working a job and attending a community college, I find myself still watching, reading, downloading, talking, and thinking about Dragonball Z.

And it's considered a kid's show to most people. I still digg it though ;P

Seems a little strange you haven't moved on. When you consider how little content comes out for it there's really no reason for you to be that interested in it.
That said I've destroyed thousands of Death Stars over the years, so I'm not really in a position to judge.
Whats wrong with you Kujila? Is having a personal interest in something now supposed to be considered an illness? You make me sad even considering something might be wrong with you!

When I was growing up, I have known plenty of adults, who enjoyed all forms of anime (From Dragonball Z to Inyushia) and video games (From Final Fantasy to Pokemon). Enjoying something isn't wrong, people who tell you, that you are wrong for enjoying something are.

I have always loved the Dragonball series as a whole. I own Dragonball and Dragonball Z and GT, the complete, uncut, uncensored, import. I have to say that at least once a year I sit down and watch through the entire series from start to finish. Dragonball will always be my favorite, because it had that zany sense of humor and that excellent sense of adventure. But I still like Dragonball Z and GT. Although GT not so much.

The worst part about it is, I always tell myself I won't do another Dragonball Z game on BYOND and every time I watch the series, it makes me want to do just that.

Anyways, last week I was talking about some raids I was going to do on World of Warcraft with someone at work, and talking about the new expansion set of Magic the Gathering as well. Adult Swim constantly advertises stuff like this as well.

If you are not killing people, raping people or eating people, I'd say you are pretty sane.

That is absolutely awful criteria, as there is overlapping areas all over the place.

Addiction is a form of nurosis so yes it is a mental illness however it is treatable, but if nurosis advances it could lead pychosis which is insanity and untreatable.

Good luck.

According to current psychological standards, the diagnosis of "neurosis" is bunk; someone can behave in a neurotic fashion, but it is a symptom and not a diagnosis itself. The general illness is "obsessive-compulsive disorder", and in this case I don't think being addicted to a particular hobby counts as obsessive-compulsive disorder unless he absolutely cannot function without it. =)

Most adults/teenagers in Japan don't actually watch anime. It's pretty much like Spongebob over there.

DragonBall Z itself isn't too bad at times. The first few seasons before everyone's power level was a hundred-million were great. I still watch the Garlic Jr movie from time to time because Piccolo was still badass, Krillin and even Chi-Chi threw down, and Gohan got drunk too.

Besides the way everything was dragged on to fill up the time slots, I think what really screwed the series over is the way they completely abandoned their older characters when they introduce newer and stronger foes. After the Frieza saga, anyone that wasn't a Saiyan was just around to talk and get beat up. The whole show would have been better if they just ended it after the Cell saga. Goku died, his son became a man, Trunks got to know his father, Krillin fell in love, and Vegeta learned he wasn't the most important person in the universe. Everyone learned some sort of lesson and had a happy ending.
Because it is DBZ, then yes, I would say something is wrong with you :P.

Honestly, I don't understand how people like that show. It's soooo stale and boring. DBZ seems to be the American Idol of animes. It has mass apeal because of the simple nature of it which comes down to "Fight, delay, fight, delay, delay, plot change, delay, fight, delay...". I have a feeling that every episode of any given season of DBZ could be cut down into one episode.

Dragon Ball, however, was much better show. It wasn't the best anime I've ever seen, but it was pretty good.
Maybe watching Firefly would cure you. I'm hooked. :-)

Firefly was a decent show, but I could NOT stand the damn laser pistols. Just because something is scifi does not mean everyone has to use laser revolvers and laser machine guns.

That one thing ruined the entire series for me. I hate when they do that in scifi shows.

I'm not so sure that's true. I've heard that stuff is "in" right now, except for maybe older adults.

I was told this by a few friends that have served overseas. One of them is living there right now, actually.

There are some people that like it, that's for sure. But those are the kinds of guys that stayed inside during recess in elementary school. =p

That is way too stereotypical. Knock it off.

If you've had experience over there, do tell. If not, sod off.

Eh? What Firefly are you watching? In the series I know (and the movie Serenity that followed) the Serenity crew used normal bullet/projectile-base weapons. About the only time energy weapons were used were with the big shipped-based guns.

Heck, Jane was fond of his shotgun and grenades, although there was one episode where he used some kind of sniper-rifle on steriods - don't recall off the top of my hea if it was projectile- or enery-based.

I do have experience- having been there in the past, as well as my girlfriend who has recently returned from a week's vacation in Japan. Anime and manga are *very* much 'in' for people of all ages. My girlfriend was suprised at the number of adult men and women who read mange in the trains, or watched anime on the tv screens at stores/malls/bars.

Baladin- please take the edge off your commentary. 'Knock it off' comes across very authoritarian and belligerent in a 'do it or else' fashion. You do not have the power for the first, and we don't need the attitude of the second. You can certainly disagree or provide opposing information, but the attitude is not supported.

SuperAntz- you've been around here long enough that 'sod off', while not cussing in itself, is not welcome commentary. Regardless of other people's opinions or mis-information, you do not have the right to tell people off here. Do it on a blog or other medium. If a moderator sees this kind of behavior again, and you can expect a lengthy break from the forums. You know better.

Let's try to keep this thread civil, please! The public forums are not for personal attacks, either direct or indirect.

Yeah, they use laser pistols. There was an episode where they teamed up with some thief to steal an older gun that was one of the prototype laser pistols or something. You can also see the main character holding one on his wiki page.

Darn you for linking to a Firefly wiki. Now I just wasted my morning reading the entire thing.
