"Change isn't optional- it's inevitable."
-Eh, sounded clever
I don't mean to be another kid making a blog post to stir up drama, but I can't help but bring this up- how come every time BYOND progresses in a manner that would promote positive growth(i.e. outside advertisement/promotion, original games, etc.) that the community has a sissy-fit? I'm starting to realize that the BYOND community can be very... hypocritical?
The new site design is nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. The removal of the guilds(anime guild in particular..) will help keep BYOND less segregated. As for the people who swear BYOND will fall on it's face because of the Anime Guild's removal- Isn't like the fan-games are going anywhere. They will still be made, and played daily. From what I'm hearing about only members making HUBs- I recall having a discussion with Tom, Falacy, and a few other people on the forum once about this. If you think about it, it's not a terrible thing at all. It will drive more income to BYOND, and hopefully weed out the children who make HUBs for their game that lasts all of two weeks.
Sure it's a big change, but it's not as dramatic as people are making it out to be. It's not the first time the community has overreacted over a large change. For example: The whole
"BYOND Meets Facebook" ordeal earlier this month was ridiculous. So many people swore that it was a bad idea, another step in the wrong direction(this was said when the isometric features had their debut, too..) and look at it now- hardly anybody even notices it now. Made little change at all except for promoting BYOND outside of the site.
Whether it's just a hypocritical mindset or selfish BYOND members trying to keep BYOND as a non-mainstream development tool. It needs to stop or eventually BYOND will wither away. Anime or not.
P.S. Great job Tom, Lummox, and other BYOND devs, keep up the great work. (:
P.S.S. The
is nice- reminiscent of the old BYOND website.
