Someone, pretty please refer me to a half-decent RPG.
Well, that was a lot of time I just wasted. I decided to get back into Mystic Journey; it's not the greatest, but it's a decent way to pass by the hours in an RPG environment while being social at the same time. Unfortunately though, the server hosted by "XxArchmagexX" has an abusive moderator that goes by the name "Red" who felt the need to lay in to me despite the fact that I had done nothing to her (heck, I had never even made a single statement directed to her or about her) and then half the people in there of course had to be pricks and join in. Apparently they think I am a "retard" and am worthy of beratement even though I had been nothing but nice to all of them. I left and don't feel like starting all over again on the other server.
I thought about making a long ranting post about it, but none of you really care about it most likely. We all know there are jerks who unfortunately are in position to ruin games and make our time seem like it has been spent in vain. So instead of ranting I'll try to be productive instead and ask if anyone knows of any decent RPGs on Byond that have a reasonable playerbase/moderators that won't ruin the game for me. I don't keep up very well on the games list since I usually do the programming and not the gaming, so I don't know much about what all is out there.
I've also been considering taking another crack at making a game. I know, I know, I have never finished any of my games so far, and I tend to overextend myself and then get bogged down and end up scrapping projects; but I think my computer science course I had last semester - Programming Logic and Design - has helped me a lot and will enable me to manage my programs better and develop them with much more ease and speed, so I might actually be able to finish something for once.
I have ideas of what I would want to make, but I'm to the point now where I can be very flexible in what a game offers as long as I have a good experience with the people I'm playing it with; therefor, if I make something I might be taking some input as to what type of RPGs some of you like. As long as it brings in some of you who are fun to game with, I don't mind deviating from my preferred game designs. If you feel the same way and want to leave a comment concerning that, prease feel free.
If I do make a game, I might do it with VB or C++ instead of Byond; I'm not sure yet, so if you know others that are looking for a good RP time but that don't use Byond, their oppinions are just as welcome.

If we're replying to it, people still care about it :)

2 and a half years later, people start replying to a thread that nobody cares about anymore. Good job, guys. Great time management skills.

I don't play many RPG's lately but I have found that http://www.byond.com/games/DevourerOfSouls/SigroganaLegend
that surpasses MJ in my eyes...
It's nicely done, with some flaws of course and needs a new graphics artist but despite all of that, it's a very neatly developing game.
I played for a small 10 minutes and became addicted.

I've been playing Teridal here and there, it's basically Seika with a new name. It's fun at first but it's extremely grindy and repetitive after a while.

Have you ever tried out Xerse's Rise of Heroes? Yea there have been all kinds of awful rips spawning from it, but the original is still available to play and is pretty fun. The only thing is, there were a lot of serious bugs that Xerse never fixed, which other players have fixed in their remakes, so it's your call whether you want to stick with the original or try out some of the remakes. Most of them are god awful though.

I have to plug my own RPG, Survival. It's currently in public beta at scheduled times but it's nearing the hard set requirements for release very rapidly. At that point it will become one 24/7 server.
Survival isn't everyone's cup of tea, but you certainly could enjoy it.

I think the best RPG you could be referred to is the one sitting in your mail box... [/non subliminal covert message]

Crispy's "Your Money or Your Life" is a great (albeit short) single-player RPG. =P

If you are interested in a fan game, I would suggest Final Fantasy 5: Another World. It's moderators are good, but the playerbase are assholes, myself being one of them. If you can take getting made fun of every once in a while, and not take it personally. It's just a way to weed out the whiners.

I overplayed myself on Darke Dungeon, so by the time he finally had to pwipe, I was crushed. :( Not that I didn't expect it to happen sooner or later since it was in an Alpha state (I think), but what a demotivator. It WAS fun, though, and the magic system is so customizable it would make your head spin.
I know, I know, "fan game lol" but I had fun on Final Fantasy Online. It has a bit of a learning curve since you typically click to walk around instead of using the arrow keys, but you might like it.

I'm pretty sure Maeva is canceled for BYOND. I'm pretty sure AA is going to come out, but that might be a while.
I completely forgot about Darke Dungeon! The full version of that supposed to be released around February I think. I just always overlook it because it's so old and the server always has lag issues that murder me :'(
I can't forget to mention Dungeon Diver, but that's going to be a very long time, probably much longer than AA, and it's currently in hiatus until I transfer the files to my compy.

There are a few in development right now that are bound to have decent moderation.
Acheron's Awakening, Maeva (Is Derdragon continuing that in BYOND?), LostRealms (Which has been in development for who knows how long), and Terra ex Machina (one of my side projects).
Have fun waiting. =(

Well, if you ever liked Mystic Journey, then I suggest Seika. I don't like either, but I think Seika is a lot better.
I don't know if it's still hosted, but Warhem by Buzzyboy was better than those two, but I think it was no longer developed.
Oh, and if you're into single player RPGs and don't mind the slime theme, Vexonater has done a bang-up job with Teh Blobz.

To be completely honest, and you'll probably hate me, but I suggest Dragonball Online Classic.
Nice community, fun game.

- TES III: Morrowind
- TES IV: Oblivion
On BYOND:
- Uh, not sure. Wait for mine to come out, whenever that may be. <_<
