Okay, it's like this. I really really want to play an awesome multiplayer snowball fight game, where you and all the other players (maybe AIs too) are kids in the snow. So I'm holding a short-term contest to come up with the most awesome game possible on short notice. The top three entries each win a year's membership, on me.

Deadline: January 15, 2008

Required elements:

  • Easy snowball fights! It has to be easy to throw a snowball (no mouse clicking required).
  • Snow forts/barricades. Players should be able to build walls to use as cover, and also to break down those walls.
  • Scenery. Simple trees, rocks. It doesn't have to be fancy.
  • Sound effects.
  • Simple keyboard interface. No verbs, no clicking, just macros.

Things that would be cool (not required):

  • Autojoining walls for the fort
  • Falling snow overlay
  • Patches of ice
  • Using ice or freezing water for devastating iceballs
  • Snowmen -- perhaps to use as automated fort guards or something

BYOND 3.5 support is not required. I'd actually prefer the game to be built using 4.0 because that means a better interface and better macros, but this is not required either. Do what works best for you.

To officially submit your game, just post a comment to this thread with a link to the hub entry. Entries will be judged on overall fun and on quality of the graphics and sound. The game must be downloadable in order to be judged. Source code is not needed.

If you need sound effects, try out the program presented by Gughunter here. It's awesome.

Just wondering, do you want it to be compatible with 3.5 version?
prizes?

It was mentioned near the top, the top three will get one year free membership
oh missed that hmm maybe but i r lzy
Hmm I do only have a year left...
But....Can I exchange that for $15 via paypal. It'll go to my Saving-for-Computer fund.
And one more thing, Abhi here believes that you're not actually paying for the memberships you're just sort of giving them away, now I full disagree with that so uh, care to settle this dispute?

[7:07 AM] Lord of light: Lummox is offering out memberships
[7:07 AM] Lord of light: and acting like he's paying for it with his hard earned money >.>
[7:10 AM] Abhishake: Lord
[7:10 AM] Abhishake: He probably is
[7:11 AM] Abhishake: The staff do have a free lifetime membership
[7:11 AM] Abhishake: But they can't just give out memberships that aren't from official BYOND contests
[7:11 AM] Lord of light: I'm sure he doens't give them out randomly
[7:12 AM] Lord of light: but Nadrew got someone a membership
[7:12 AM] Lord of light: because they donated to Nadrew
[7:12 AM] Lord of light: not BYOND
[7:12 AM] Lord of light: Nadrew
Aww jerk. Switched our names around.
Sounds fun. I may just enter.
At this point if I don't make my game I'll at least have a lengthy design doc.
Definitely sounds fun. Of course, it would've been nice if this was one week ago right when school got off, instead of last night, when school starts in like 2 days.

LOL College :[

ATP will give it a shot, though!
Who cares where the prize comes from. It's a prize.

Extra thick jackets=armor?
I don't care if it's 3.5-compatible, no. I almost made 4.0 an out-and-out requirement, as any macro system based on 4.0 will be inherently better.

Jmurph, that armor idea is exactly the sort of creative thinking I'm looking for in the game. Something that fits with the theme while making it a more interesting game works for me.

And yes, my intent was to actually pay for memberships from my hoard of BYONDimes. This can also extend an existing membership, or a winner can request that it be given to a friend instead.
Should we add in a score keeping system?
A score keeping system is up to you. Whatever enhances the gameplay experience.
My membership expires in 8.5 days. This contest ends in 16 days. I'm going to have a rough week. >_< How long will it take to judge the entries after the due date?

I'm not sure I can live without my membership...

Any money that goes towards a membership is money you won't have to pay in the future for membership. So if you win $15 towards membership, you really have earned $15 towards your Saving-for-Computer fund.
You can play a rough version of my entry byond://24.90.205.145:1025/koil/snowblockd . It is not finished, though. It should pretty much always be up.
