So as some of you know, my laptop decided to get drunk last night on some tequila. This morning I tried to start it up after letting it dry out all night long. She didn't want to start up this morning so I dried her out some more and by the time I got back from town she had gotten over her hangover and is now functioning properly.

Yep it's true. I might well have just removed myself from this years get something done challenge all because my laptop really likes tequila.

I was working on a login/save/load engine for Kurt's Quest, and I was really rather fond of it too. When bam! I go to take a drink of a margarita and it slips from my hand and onto my laptop. So now my laptop is up on it's side as the liquor and some Iraq ooze out of it in a foul brown ichor of stupidity and electronic alchololism.

I lnow it's the laptop too, because this isn't the first time it's stolen my tequilla. When I was in Germany it did the same thing. I've drank several different things around my laptop before, even used it as a table for shots of vodka, but if it's tequilla, it's gonna drink it.

Today I managed to get roughly half of my list of projected goals accomplished.

<s>Complete world map except for desert</s>
<s>Complete rough layout for the Village of Lo</s>
Begin testing of post conversion battle engine
<s>Begin conversion of spells from old to new format [Heal/Cure]</s>
<s>Icons for /obj/item</s>
Fix Login system to start in the Village of Lo
<s>Look at old Save/Load format and begin to develop more efficient format</s>
Convert all badguys from old format to new
Treasure chests
<s>Stackable items now stack and display changing stack count</s>
Snake type enemy battle sprite.

That's what I managed to complete before several bloody marys gave me a severe case of the post 1AM fuckits.

That's it for now folks. I'm off to go play FFT until I pass out from exhaustion.

More progress tomorrow.
[lets hope I don't delete this like I did the first one...]

Well, as you guys have probably figured out by now, I have a horrible habit of just disappearing for a while.

I've been working my butt off at home but that is neither here nor there.

For my entry in the Get Something Done Challenge of 2010 I am reviving an old project of mine named "Kurt's Quest" It is a single player RPG in the same vein as Dragon Quest I. Years ago I was able to patch together the semblance of a game that I never managed to complete. Having always wanted to complete it I have since then attempted to finish the project two times. The project was once nearly completed however the code base was riddled with both bugs and poor programming techniques from my earliest years of working with DM.

If I am able to complete my lists of tasks in a timely manner I should be able to make a strong showing in this years challenge. As of now I have neither screen shots nor proof of concept demonstrations to show due to a difficult computer situation. However I expect to have several tidbits for your perusal in the near future.

[Edit]

After hours of feverish work on a dyeing laptop at hours well past midnight I have completed the rough blocking of the world map as well as fine tuned the detail work on well over half of it.

Still left are the three dungeons and seven towns ranging from a simple hut to sleep in to a full city.

I have managed to port the old battle engine over and will begin heavy testing of the systems tomorrow.

The major plot points have all been planed out and a story board of sorts exists loosely on paper and in my head.

I still have to create custom sprites for the enemies as well as nicer battle backgrounds. Fortunately the programming aspects are proving to be slightly easier than I had anticipated seeing as how I have gone back over the code base and have begun to purge all unnecessarily complex systems, naming conventions, and other pipe dreams in favor of a simple base that will allow for more streamlining of the project. If all goes well, this time next week I will be in the playtesting/balancing phase and finishing up on content.

Here's hoping.

[/Edit]

As of now, that is all.
Things are going well. Project# 621 is still in deveolpment, Final Frailties is still on hold, I am entering the Get Something Done contest with a long dead project of mine by the name of kurts quest.

I have been lateraly promoted to corporal now so yay me.
Well, I just missed the Sunday deadline by a few hours.

Oh well. I hope that every one had as wonderful a first day of spring as I did. I know that a lot of people were complaigning that the first day of spring here was a bleak looking, cold, cand rainy day. I kept telling them that yes, if you expected today to be a bright sun shiney day, then yeah, it's a pretty crappy day. If however you looked a bit deeper, for a rainy day it was quite beautiful. The rain was falling gently, and the wind was aa refreshingly birsk one. You have to find it in your self to love some thing for what it is, not hate it for how it failed to live up to your expectations of what it should have been. A feat that I myself a. not always up to, but you have to tey damnit.

Now on to the meat and potatoes of this report.

[Final Frailties]

I have not given up on this game. I simply have far to much to accomplish as of right now to continue it's development at this time. I am sitting atop a mountain of ideas for it though.

One day I will come back to it I promise.

[Project #621]

I finally got The Hockie up and running on his own computer with a fresh install of Byond. Like me he is rather swamped, but we are both quite dedicated to this project. He now has all of the rescources he requires except an abundant supply of time.

[Army (Reserve) Life]

Things are going well, I qualified as a marksman last drill due to some computer errors in the est 2000 that I am not going to get into here.

I was able to do far more push ups on the latest pt test than ever before. Mid 60's. I was so proud. Then I went and failed my run by a minute... Stupid hangover.

I will be recieving a promotion to Corporal soon, and I have begun to put together my promotion packet for Sergeant.

Things look good all around.

[Real Life]

Things could be better, but they could also be a hell of a lot worse.

I finally have access to running water today, and let me tell you that first shower after 4 days of not having water was a thing of fucking beauty. I was able to shave and clean myself up rather nicely when it's all said and done.

I am once again relegated to my phone being the only internet access I possess at the moment, which sucks, but at least I have access right.

I have recently taken a far more active role in the maintanance of our house. The cooking, cleaning, laundry and what naught, I must say that I feel signifigantly better about both the house and myself for my efforts.

Earlier today I got my car stuck in the mud because the area I parked in decided to flood and my front end sank a good 4 inches. So I had to run to town which is way the hell away now and buy a tow strap, but hey, now I have a tow strap right?

[Conclusion]

I now end my report and ready myself to face the new week head on.

I leave you with something to consider, as well as a seemingly easy task.

What is the one thing around your house, school, or place of gainful employment that you truely despise. Now consider for a moment just why you loathe it so.

Once you've done that for a moment, write me a little haiku about the object of your unbridled and rightious seething hatred.

Remember kids, haikus are those little three line poems with five sylables on the first line, seven on the second, and five again on the final line.

For me personally, it would have to be stocking the drive through window beer cooler. It's right beside the front door so many people come in and grab multiple 30 packs of beer out of it when there is a much larger cooler just 100 feet away.

Storage close at hand
For beer the people demand
Forever empty.

This last week has been rather difficult for me, as such I haven't really been feeling up to do much of anything.

[Final Frailties]

Haven't touched it.

[Project #621]

I managed to get the equipment to randomly generate properly now. It functions very similar to a WoW or Diablo style equipment generation. type [classification] IE, Dancing Long Sword of Defense.

Other than that not a lot.

[Real Life]

Yeah this one is the real bitch right now. I've been having some family induced hard times lately and simply trying to deal with them is making me sink to entirely new levels of unhappy. I haven't been this depressed in years.

[Army (Reserve) Life]

I go to drill next weekend, so nothing new until then.
Sorry that it took me a few extra days to get back with everyone.

I've been sick. It sucks.

Before I can put this off any further.

[Final Frailties]

I discovered that I can host again with my internet connection here. With that comes me discovering just how much I hate being asked about a party system. Go figure right.

[Project #621]

The Hockie I have spent the last week talking in great detail about the project. I have been working around the clock on the graphics for the characters and bad guys. As of now I have this much done.

Nothing really impressive yet, but it is work, and it is getting done.

[Real Life]

Pretty much sucks. Broke all the time, been sick, working like a dog. Nothing to complain about though right.

[Army (Reserve) Life]
