My first thought was how would you emulate 3D...And my second thought was on how the 3D could theoretically be improved on a large screen monitor/television disregarding the stretch factor...

The Augmented Reality games wouldn't been nearly as cool without a moving screen! :P

Also, I think the technology most 3D TVs use is considerably different from that of the 3DS. Not to mention that if you can afford a glasses-free 3D TV, you could probably spring for a 3DS...
Indeed, seeing as the DS's 3D is built into the screen rather than the glasses with a tv, it'd be wayy less complicated to just buy the system unless you're fully content with strictly 2D.
Honestly...I looked at one at best buy today and it seemed like something that would hurt my eyes playing it. It barely looked 3D at all to me...The way they hyped it up I figured it'd look like a hologram or something..but it's still basically 2D
Well when it came to the AR shooting game yes, it did hurt my eyes trying to play in 3D because you HAVE to move around while you're supposed be still to see the 3D effect. And yeah, it isn't as profound as movie theater 3D but you can really see the effect better when you watch the OK Go video included in the system update. Not blown away by it but it is indeed 3D with a perception of depth..
