This is probably not going to be the final scheme of the backgammon board, but it will be pretty similar; border, dark spires, light spires, background in order of darkest to lightest features.

Hmm, I wonder what this is for? It's a mystery =o
Indeed. The go.png image is quite a myster.
Better be go. Because if it is i'll love you even more.
That mystery, I <3 it. Though, I don't like the texture as much. =(

Avid go players know: Lighter boards are better. The best/preferred and most expensive boards are those made of kaya "because of its beautiful yellow-gold color, fine and uniform ring texture, and the sonic quality of the click of a stone on its surface," though recently California Torreya has been admired because of its similar qualities and higher quantities.
I personally favour the darker, more earthy tones because I find them easier to look at, though I could easily change the board colour if it means that much to the Go players.

If the floor board pictured on the Wikipedia page is the desired colour, I could attempt to recreate it for BGC's board. A donation from anyone who knows what they want to see as a Go board would be appreciated, as well, since I'm just grabbing at straws with a cloud tool =p

EDIT: Any better?
A little better, yeah. :)
There are some good, free wood textures available (specifically for Drago) that you might like to look into here. WOODI05.jpg and wood057.jpg are probably my favorite two there. They're all 96x96, so you could have a 9-state tileset for gobans and then repeat them. :]
Another comment I'd like to make is that since you enjoy exporting game results to be saved in databases (like for Chess), you could do the same with Go. :]

I personally think that the SGF file format isn't too complicated (though the documentation isn't great). If you need some good reference files, KGS archives all the games played on it; feel free to use mine for lots of practical examples and test cases for your loading routines: http://www.gokgs.com/gameArchives.jsp?user=hiead
I like how the Go board is looking, but you're missing the Star Points, which are the 9 black dots placed on the board
Oi, looking back at this post (thanks to Kamaro's valid comment about the star points causing a pager alert), the board looks great! Thanks for putting in my requests. :]

Huh, I didn't even notice those. I don't know much about Go, I'm learning it just to make it available in BGC since it was requested =p
Ah that's sooo sweet of you. ;)

Haha if you need a quick, interactive introduction to the game, you could check out The Interactive Way To Go; it should cover all or most of the stuff you'd need to implement, and by the end you should know enough of the rules to be able to play against another beginner. :]

My suggestion would be to play through that, download the KGS client, create an account, and play a few games against other beginners to get the feel for it (and more games still if you like it!). After all, Baduk sucks your life away.
Sweeeet, Go.
