My Xbox suffers from what is referred to as the "open tray error", which is apparently some fault with the laser reader hardware, where it tracks too far inward and attempts to read boot information from the clear center part of the disc. What's particularly annoying about this problem is that I can do absolutely nothing about it except continuously open and close the tray until the Xbox finally gets the idea that it has a disc in there.

I've managed to (somewhat) rectify this by installing the games I play the most to the drive, but this just avoids the inevitable "this disc cannot be read" error -- I still have to open and close the tray until it figures out the disc is in there so I can boot the copy off the drive.
FYL. Heh, well my old X-box(my favorite one) just got red rings. FM-- FOL.
Mine has the samething it wont play any disk
Yeah I noticed that to when I download a Xbox 360 game on my hardrive an hour later when I try to play it off the hardrive it says enter the disk -_-.
That sucks. I'm still wondering when/if my xbox will ever kick the bucket. The most problems I had was with the disc drive not opening, and a disc read error once in a blue moon.

Yea+1
I had this problem once, I think. When a game was in, it would say the tray was open. It seemed to fix itself though. Instead of pushing the button to close the tray I just jammed the tray in there and it's never happened since. I wouldn't suggest this though, because it could have been blind luck. I don't want you breaking your XBox360 from my advice.
