This will be my final base for my game, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Take 2:

Take 3: I adjusted his leg width; I think I like it better, thoughts?
Very nice, but make under the chin lighter!
The anatomy looks weird. And lose the pillow shading brosky.
EDIT : http://i51.tinypic.com/9bk5lk.png

With a quick edit, your base has been improved.

I hold my peace.

Your edit looks like arnold swarchenegger as a midget.

Not much to edit, really.
OA had made the base rather bulky and that's what I based the edit on.

Oh.
Pillow shading was mentioned, but there's also a lot of banding problems. The stance looks really weird to me too. It looks like he's sitting while standing; he has terrible posture as his back also seems bent.

This is the angle I Was going for; so I think most everything looks fine. I will consider messing with the stance width again, but it feels more "Action" appropriate as opposed to a 2-pixel narrower difference.

And um, where is it pillow shaded? Nearly every shadow is cast for a reason; the light source is just ambiguous 'cause I think it looks shit-tacular when you cast one on a base icon. The stylization is obviously cartoony. Note: His head is like 1/4 his height.

Edit: Banding problems?
Banding is an issue in a lot of pixel art. If you don't care how your art look and don't want to improve your art, I guess you shouldn't worry about it. Let's start with your pillow shading though.

Pillow shading is the bane of pixel art. It's a terrible way to shade and makes it look terrible. There's no such thing as an ambiguous light source in pixel art. Your entire character there has a darker shade surrounding his entire body. That is pillow shading and you put absolutely no thought into it. There's a good article that talks about pillow shading and what you can do to help it. Click me!

While the banding is less important, at least the sword should be fixed. The entire sword is basically banding. If you want to know more about banding, there's also an article on that in the "Banding Primer" section. You might as well read the entire article while you're at it. Click me!
Dude you put (almost) entire dark borders around your pixel art (update 15, I believe), does that also mean you put "no thought into it."? I'm just curious.

Oh, and for the sword/axe - those took me each sub 20 seconds - they were just to feel out proportions.

Better on the shading? I plan on switching out some of the darker lines on the edges as well.

And sorry for being a smartass at the start; I just felt you were a tich rude in your response. Though, genuinely, thanks for your help.
Damn dude, I'm currently working on recoloring them; thanks for the advice; I'll post the most recent edition shortly - major reconstruction in process :)

I didn't put much thought into shading for it, no. I've improved a lot since then, though. I've learned a lot about shading and banding, and Axl there has a poor shading job and banding. Regardless, he isn't pillow-shaded.

The armor wasn't the main concern for pillow-shading as was the base. The "ambiguous" light source is still a problem, though. Choose a consistent light angle and go with it.

You're welcome, and sometimes critique can come a little bluntly. ;)

I do believe you have potential. There's just some things that need to be worked out.
