I'm gay, my parents are aware. Some of BYOND is aware, I don't really care who knows, I just want to put a message out there to those who will listen.
My parents have been more than accepting, they're genuinely supportive as well. However if at any point down the road you have a child who happens to be gay... please, please, please don't give the special treatment, and please don't treat them worse.
Treat them the same. They're human, they're sane, they're rational, just because they like someone of the same gender does not connote anything. Gay men do not have to be effeminate, gay women do not have to be masculine. Even if they do defy gender norms, don't judge, it's not your darn place to dictate how anyone acts.

It not that people do not like YOU as a person. I am sure you are a very intelligent and creative person its just the lifestyle you live that most do not like. Just because someone does not like homosexuality doesn't mean they hate you. Nobody is judging you as a person. Didn't think so. My choice? I prefer sex with men to women. I've had both. Aesthetics are personal, sexuality is personal, I don't choose to prefer sex with men. I do. I don't choose to prefer dark chocolate to milk chocolate, I do. It's sensual, it's sensory, it's not dictated by a decision. Did you wake up one day and say, "Hrm, I could have sex with boys, but I'm not going to, I'm going to have sex with girls." Of course not! it was never an option. I've been sexually attracted to men since I was 13. (I hit puberty late.) And sure people may still like me as a person, but as a gay male I've seen a lot of the time people just don't keep that distaste to themselves. Gay killings were highest since 1999 in 2008, discriminatory killings for no apparent reasons. You don't have to worry about getting killed over you sexuality do you? I'm fine, I actually HAVE HOMOPHOBIC friends. I just don't talk about my sexuality in front of them. I'm not some masochistic prick. I'm not whining, I'm trying to draw attention to an issue, that needs to be addressed. I'd like my children (If I ever have/adopt any.) to grow up in a world where they're accepted regardless of any trivial factors. I can NOT stand gays that talk and act like they are gay just to get attention. I'm not for gay marriage, I believe it should be between a man and the woman and I stand by my biblical beliefs. As a Christian, I know that the Bible is pretty darn clear on that stuff. However, I respect you as a person and don't think any different of you if you are gay. I would never discriminate against a gay person. However, if you are like those idiots that walk around waving rainbows in the air and talking in their gay feminine accents, I might have a bit of an issue if I was to meet you in real life because those people are rather obnoxious.

I don't flame. Most of the time. I just act like who I am. First meeting me, you wouldn't really have a clue, maybe a hint, but nothing finite. However, why do you care what other people act like? Do you see stereotypically gay people becoming enraged at those who act stereotypically heterosexual? Jesus spoke of love, never hatred. He hung out with whores... couldn't you at least try to be a little more tolerant of people's behavior? I know the bible talks against effeminate behavior in a passage... or two, i think it's only one, but regardless. If marriage has religious connotations then it shouldn't be involved in the government. Civil Unions can be for all, and there can be marriage as a religious and non-government official service. Separation of church and state NEEDS to be established, the real irony of course is that our country was formed so that individuals could escape religious persecution. However, sentiment has changed, and since 25% of our nation is evangelical christian, our government has been utterly perverted. Regardless of the marriage issue, Jesus preached acceptance and love for your neighbors. Either ignore the old testament entirely, or go on a killing spree. You can't believe that the bible is the solemn, irrefutable word of God, and then disregard certain segments, and hold others more valid. I don't care what a priest says, they aren't God.
