For more DETAILS read the announcement on HWC's forums!

Since April of 2006 Hidden Wind Clan has been catering to an independent group of like-minded, creative individuals with the idea of an intensive role playing community that has no strings attached. The motivation behind it is that anyone can achieve important positions in the game, strengthen their character and play a significant role in an intricate community through sheer work and motivation alone. No money is involved.

The community prides itself on a no discrimination policy and is built to help interested writers develop their literary skills in an interactive environment. Regardless of how they write.

The main point of this game as a whole is to role play. You will start off your journey as a member of a ninja village. The paths you take, the development of your character and technical level of expertise you acquire is all based on the amount of time you put into the game. As stated, it's a very intensive, immersive and involved role play in which you can build a character of your own.

There are a number of characters on the game that have been in the making for the 5 years the game has been open. The longer and more you play, the more involved you become. You get out of this game what you put into it.

The game has been down for a long time. I'm in need of a strong, respectable staff team to manage the game.

What we're looking for:

Read the DETAILS on the official forums for what job roles we need. Descriptions of each job are included there.

Creative minds to write and execute staff run events (festivals, village attacks, story-lines, etc.)

&&&&&

Strong willed people to enforce game rules and moderate both the game client and forums.

To sum that up, the game is a role playing game. The staff members are in charge of writing the unfolding (and ever changing) story line, organize events and moderate the game. I've broken the roles into two separate fields -- Events Coordination and Player Relations.

I'll personally make sure that it's worth the time of anyone who volunteers for positions. Application process is required. PLEASE read the post on the HWC forums for more details (link posted at the top of this post)

One thing in this world I'm super passionate about is my clothing. To be blunt, I work my ass off in order to enjoy the luxury of nice clothes. If I see shoes I like? I buy them. Emphasis on I buy them, not anyone else.

I'm considering making a vlog channel on YouTube where I review some of my clothes, show some outfits and give some tips/tricks on finding your gear for cheap. Would anyone be interested in watching it?

Being said I'm curious what your style is? I'm going through a tank top phase for the summertime. Rock it with some skinny-fitting pants, dope kicks and a GoodWood piece. I'll be set to stun, you feel me?
It occurred to me in a post I just read by another BYOND developer that today a lot of younger people are having a difficult time finding their place in the work force due to shaky rumors, information they're not privy to and overall lack of experience. I see it everyday and my heart goes out to anybody who is desperately searching for means of income in the cutthroat workforce that America has produced. I've compiled some tips that I hope can help you land at least an entry level position somewhere to get some experience that can levitate you to a better job somewhere down the road.

1.) A lot of people go out and spontaneously go into stores asking for applications and/or if they're hiring. If this is your strategy, keep in mind that the store you're going into is probably seeing a staggering number of young adults just like you the same day. Keeping track of faces is very difficult. It's best to attack a store during key hours or in a manner that will make the authority figures of the store remember you. What do I suggest? If you're going into a store randomly, let's use a clothing store for example, at least go in earlier in the morning or later in the evening. You want to approach at a time when traffic in the store is going to be insignificant so that you have the opportunity to engage a member of the management staff in conversation and connect with them in a personal level. I don't suggest going in and asking right off the bat for an application! Go in and start up conversation with the employees, let them help you look around their store. After you make that connection with them, you can engage in a more serious note as you're leaving and ask about hiring. Maybe hint that you're looking for a job. If they like you, they'll be more enthusiastic about giving you an application and remembering your face. Always give them your name as you leave too!

2.) Dress the part! If you're desperate for a job and plan on going as many places as you can, plan your outfits strategically. Wear clothes that are going to help you blend into the store you're going into so that you place yourself on the targeted customer level for that establishment. Don't wearing a suit and tie if you're going into a place like PacSun, Zumiez, American Eagle, etc. You'll end up being a comical conversation piece for the employees when you leave the store. By dressing the part of the store, it will be easier for you to make a good first impression and fall into place with the clique of people who work at that store.

3.) In a clothing store talking to a sales associate about getting a job isn't likely going to get you very far. Make it an effort to seek out a manager without being too blunt or rude. The further up in the hierarchy of the store the person you're speaking with is, the better chance you have of scoring a job. An associate may not be able to guarantee you a job and can still stand true as a recommendation for you to get in with the company. But who do you think they're recommending you to? Their management. On a side note, it's also true that most retail stores in today's market offer a recommendation bonus to their staff. If they recommend somebody to the store and that person gets hired, the associate (or whatever the position) may get a few extra dollars in their paycheck. Use that to your advantage when you're on the prowl.

4.) Keeping in mind everything you've learned so far, when you go into a store don't make it obvious that you're only in there to find a job. If you tell them openly that's all you're there for, odds are you're going to break any chance at making a personal connection with the employee you're speaking with. That connection is the key to finding a job on your own in the entry level workplace, especially if you don't have any inside help (i.e; somebody you know who works there).

5.) Also be sure to speak eloquently and articulately! Present yourself as an intellectual who can be an asset to the company. On the same note, be careful not to intimidate whoever you're talking with. Most retail stores don't require any level of college education to work in management on a local level. While that doesn't mean you won't stumble upon smart, witty people, you just need to make sure you don't make whoever you're talking to feel stupid or less intelligent than you are!

These five steps can help you make a good first impression and strengthen you chances of finding a job in a local store, part time or full time. Keep in mind that in any interview you want to talk yourself up without being cocky. Make sure that you bring up any accolades or accomplishments that you think could be pertinent to you impressing your interviewer. Developer on BYOND? Talk about your successful game. Talk it up in a manner that seems really official. "I worked with a team of artists to produce character and terrain designs for an online game/application".

I wanted to go into a lot more detail but I have a meeting to get to! By meeting I mean I've got a date for tacos. Maybe after I order a meal I'll chat up the workers and try these steps out again for myself. It's essentially how I got my current job and it's how I look for people I'll hire into that job.

Most of this information is based off of first hand experience and actually reverses the CUSTOMER FIRST MODEL most retail stores use to teach their employees how to sell well. The order most stores use and the order you want to follow in your encounter with store employees is: Establish a connection, Keep the connection through conversation and Establish a rapport based off of the connection. Most stores follow this model so that they can assure a sale.

You're following their own model so that you can assure a job.

Did you find this information helpful?

@iAWOL:

I posted a blogged about Twitter recently and I think my enthusiasm for the social network really leaked out (I encourage you all to give it a try!). Anyway, I've been reading some interesting studies on the microblog networking that's been emerging over the past few years. I got curious as to how many of the BYONDers support networks similar to Twitter.

I think I said in my earlier blog that I really enjoy the on-the-go feel and portability of networks like Twitter. I like that your personality is defined bit by bit through your posts and it makes networking with new, interesting people fun and exciting because you can easily align your interests with one another.

What really got me interested in these studies is that the past week I've been out of town and found myself using Twitter more and looking for tips on how to strengthen my Twitter community and really enrich the experience in general. I found a lot of points that I agreed with, like: Quality over Quantity, Genuineness and the simple fact that with networks like Twitter, you get what you put into it!

I don't mean for this to sound like propaganda in support of Twitter (or other microblogging resources). I want to know what your takes on the concept of microblogging in general are so I can put together an evaluation of the BYOND community for my own records.

Do you use any microblogs? What appeals to you about them? Which ones do you use? & Any other personal notes you might have about your own opinion or agreeing/disagreeing with mine!

I'm a very musical person by nature. For what reason I couldn't really say, I've simply always been drawn to music in times of success, sorrow or any significant moment in my life. Today in specific I'm in a bit of a slump (I'll spare you the details as to why) so I'm listening to music that speaks to me in a positive manner, trying to pull myself out of it.

I do this kind of stuff all the time depending on my mood. Celebratory music when I'm happy to optimize the euphoria-nature of a good mood.

Overall I'm just chilling out enjoying some music trying to pull myself out of a bit of depression. Do you ever use music to get you out of a slump?

I'm also getting into blogging more to try and get some stress out of my life. Definitely keep posted for more! If you liked this one, follow me here on BYOND and likewise on twitter!
I've been really picky about social networks as they've been coming out over the past 10 years. I've found that Myspace has been very convoluted and Facebook has evolved into a second Myspace.

However, I have been using Twitter consistently over the past two or three years. Not much about it has changed and I love the on-the-go mobility it seems to offer. While people often say things like "why would I want to hear what people have to say about themselves?" I find that it's actually quite the opposite. Often times for my Twitter is more of a casual conversation or a party going on constantly throughout the day. Most of the narcissistic remarks I see are usually posted on Facebook. It's not entirely avoidable though, that's part of what networking is.

Another attractive feature about Twitter to me is that you can diversify it easier than you can a network like Facebook. I follow people I worked with on game projects, artists whose art I really like, musicians I typically listen to and even some knock-off philosopher twitters like "Socrates" who tweets very deep statements like: "Employ your time in improving yourself by other peeps' tweets, so that you shall gain easily what others have retweeted hard for."

Overall I just enjoy the experience and would like to branch out more and network to fun people who are as social as I am and will communicate with one another. Twitter is only as fun as you make it so by following people who are going to be receptive to your tweets (and vice versa) you're going to find the network really fun.

If you have a Twitter and agree with this blog, follow me: http://www.twitter.com/iAWOL

If you're thinking about trying the social network but don't know anyone who uses it, branching out is a good way to start! Don't feel intimidated, let me know and I'll help you enjoy the experience!

Hey guys,

I tend to dislike blog posts that target advertisement of a game specifically. I've done it before and retrospectively isn't the best way to anchor your ship. However, I do want to make a blog post about a little contest I'm pushing to giveaway a BYOND membership. The only reason I opt to also making a blog post about it is because it benefits both BYOND and HWC at the same time. Depending on how successful this is, I may do it again in the future. It's sort of a prototype run.

Here's a little detail:
HWC is putting on a little campaign to try and improve activity over the next couple of weeks. As means for this we're trying to target a specific player who is excelling within the community and rewarding them with a BYOND membership.

Over the next 15 days the staff will be monitoring the role plays of players and chalking up points (not literally) for those of which who are excelling from a role play standpoint. Assume the role of your character and really try to dig your roots into the game. HWC is a sandbox, you get what you put into it!

What does this mean for you if you've never played before but still want a chance to get the membership? Visit our forums (read the pinned topics) and create a character application. New players are just as eligible as veterans are for this contest. All you really need is a character and a creative mindset. Hurry up, though! The later you get in on this, the more difficult it is going to be for us to evaluate you as a role player. As usual the staff are still here to help give you direction if you're confused, just ask!

For more information on the contest and what we're looking for, click this link and read the official post about it on our forums (click)

I just looked at the calendar and realized that I'm 10 days past my 8th year anniversary on BYOND. It's crazy.

Thinking back, I've enjoyed a lot of time on the games produced by professional and unprofessional developers alike (sort of).

I'm kind of excited to hit a 10 year mark.

I'm curious if it's possible to set up a way to display if a game is live through some sort of code that can be implemented into a separate website.

I guess I'm not fluent enough in other types of coding to really crack the nut myself.

On a related, but separate note, would it be possible to in turn list the open servers? This is out of curiosity. I'm just doing some experimenting with website design and BYOND.

I'm trying to figure out how to go about making an action occur when a person begins typing into an input box.

I've done some looking through the the reference, and even through the forums because this is something I'm not fluent in. I'm honestly still learning the complexities of skins.

Just as a little background info so that it's not a shot in the dark: The objective is that when a person is typing, or has something typed into an input box for that matter, a small overlay will be added to them.
