Some people have been talking to me, saying I could add a third color, being grey (rgb 127,127,127) , to the palette to add a little more variety.
This variety would be especially helpful with the creation of classes, at best each class sprite would look different from others to distinguish them.

Here, just take a look at the difference:

Should I add a third color? Post in the comment section telling me why or why not.
Shadow, base tone, and highlight is what you should have done from the start.
I would keep the third color. To me it just looks better.
A third color would be neat for more variety anyways.
Three!
How's this then, people:
Maybe only animated sprites will include the third color? I kinda like the terrain how it is with two.
Sounds fine.
Whatever works out in the end.
diggin' the addition of grey.
The grey definitely allows for more detail. I like it!
Protip: Don't draw the mouth. Only use it for facial hair.
If you like the extra detail and variety, I think you'll find that expanding your palette will only help. Using a deliberately reduced color set is an artistic choice, so you have to decide at what point you're straying from that style. Is the strictly black and white style important enough that you'd let it potentially harm the game? It doesn't sound like it is.

I think it would look better, but with an additional shade or two it'll just look like you're trying to make a gameboy game.
