Super Smash Bros. BYOND Review

A review for Super Smash Bros. BYOND created by Oondivinezin
Gameplay8/10
Presentation8/10
Originality8/10
Overall8/10
This will be my first review for the BYOND Fighting Games Guild and soon more to come. Since the owner of the Guild is Oondivinezin, I felt like reviewing his most popular, and greatest game. The game you all know as "Super Smash Bros BYOND", the best known Super Smash Bros. game on BYOND.

Well, to start off. Super Smash Bros. BYOND is a fighting game of course, you choose a character and than a stage and start fighting, like most fighting games. It has a unique fighting system that is nicely done unlike most fighting games. And it has a very cool single player mode that you can play when it's not hosted, which adds a lot to the experience. The single player mode actually is how you unlock characters, so players must play offline to get their characters, and than go on and play.

Graphic Rating: 8/10
There is a lot of characters to choose from, which all look very nicely. Most are not the same sprites as they would be for their games, which makes the game appealing to look at. They all have a lot of icon states since there is a lot of attacks. There is currently 21 stages that all look very different and mostly all them are nice to look at. Some stages such as Jova Woods could be tweaked to make it look a bit more appealing, we know it's NES, but the same tree being used could have been turn to sky. Some other stages do not use too much detail or may not be appealing to the eye, but they are still fun. Finnaly, the game is not in 4.0, meaning no interface.

Sound - Music Rating: 8/10
Each stage has it's own unique song, which adds a lot to the music value. There is also nice stage select/title screen music, pretty much all the music in SSB BYOND is nice to listen to. Now to the sound, I'm pretty sure every character has sound, not for everything, but they do. Some sounds are not actually from the characters, but they still fit in. Some sounds do not fit in so well, but they work.

Game play Rating: 8/10
The gameplay in Super Smash Bros. BYOND is different than most BYOND fighting games. The fighting system is unique with macros making a lot of the characters different. The controls are Z for your normal attack, normally melee. X would be your special attack like your projectiles, bombs, double jumps, etc. And C to jump. The directional pad is used to do different attacks, normally attacking inside that directions. Playing through different characters makes you feel like your playing a different character and not just a new icon with different damages. Some characters are more overpowered than others and unbalanced, but it creates more fun.

Multi-player Rating: 9/10
The Multi-Player is not essential inside Super Smash Bros. BYOND, since there is a single player mode. But it's fun to have a duel with about 2-4 people, stages are all very small(1 screen) so fighting with many players will be a pain and you'll have some people spamming attacks. The Single player is pretty fun to play and that's the way you unlock characters so it is needed, you need to download it off the hub to reduce lag from the game.

Fun over time Rating: 7/10
This would be the only thing that sometimes may become annoying on Super Smash Bros. BYOND. I find it's fun for a good bit of time, and than you feel like a break. There is nothing you are trying to reach while playing online, and offline is needed to unlock all the characters making it annoying for you to leave the game, go unlock characters, come back. It would be nice if there was a good reason to play online other than fun. The game overall though is fun to play, just needs a reason for you to want to continue playing online.

Overall Rating: 8/10
The game is not like most of the fighting games on BYOND and is very fun to play. There is many stages with good music, and characters to choose from. A good single player mode that you play offline to unlock characters, but could use some unlockables online. Therefor, Super Smash Bros. BYOND gets a 8/10.

This is my favorite game on BYOND. Out of all of them. This is my favorite. The gameplay is fun and the characters are cool. The users are very kind too. This is the best game on BYOND ever.

Not entirely true. Once one of you upgrades to a new PC, keep the old one, uninstall everything but Linux, and set up a server using that PC as the terminal. (FF5 AW does this, it seems to work just fine)

We're trying Miles, it's not as easy as you think. You have to pay for a quality 24/7 server and neither of us wants to really fork over the money to do so.

@ Neon: Options -> Turn off Circles

This is awesome - i was one of the hosts to an old server requested because someone wanted to use Super Sonic and Super Mario. I think the only thing wrong with the game is Knuckles' sound. That's IT.

EDIT: Also, you know the little circle that comes up on the edge of the stage? That thing LAGS. Whenever it appears, my game freezes for a second, and if i'm the one off, i *CANNOT* get back on. Fix it.

Looking at your hub Troy, you have many typos, not even host files. How would we like it if it's only 35% or so done? Go advertise your game when it's playable.
