Sunday the 19th crashing dream Seeker in Off Topic

For some unknown reason the latest byond client update is causing Sunday the 19th to crash and totally freeze dream seeker.

At the moment Eviler is on holiday and won't be back til tuesday so he can't properly look into this. (Although I'm not sure it's a problem with the coding)

Anyways to avoid all crashing in-game for the moment turn off your SFX under the player tab.

This will fix things for the time being

Please test this with the previous version of BYOND, which you can just install on your desktop as a temporary file. Simply unzip: http://www.byond.com/download/build/474.1079_byond.zip and run from that directory.

BYOND v.475 uses the latest version of FMOD, so if it is crashing with SFX, that is most likely the cause.

For further dialogue on this, please make a bug report.

Thanks Tom I'll continue to use the previous byond build for the moment and see if the crashing continues.

How would this affect players exactly? Does it depend on which version the game has been built from/hosted from? Or is it directly linked to the version a player is using?

If it is due to FMOD, it will only affect the client, so changing the host won't fix it-- your users would have to use 474. But that's something you could test, because the FMOD thing is only a theory. Really, you should run some tests on the new & old versions and file a proper bug report via the tracker and we can work with you from there.

I've just checked the coding and sound files, but there seems to be no problem. The fact that it worked before also has me thinking it has to be something with the new release. The crash seems to happen on an overload, aka lots of sound playing in small time. For us, it's buzzsaws cutting people. Perhaps it can't handle multiple sound files as good as before anymore? This seems to happen most while playing a 19kb .ogg file a number of times.
