I was just curious, has anybody else found a way for people to buy houses and the like and keep them - in-game? And what about guilds, does everyone know how to make them so that you can see and edit who's in the guild even when they are offline?

Yes, lots of people have found that.

Not everyone knows, but it's pretty easy to figure out. Obviously if you want to do something that involves names, and don't want to have to worry about whether a mob is in use or not, you should just work with the names and not the mobs themselves. Usually that means keys, but it may be desirable to go by both key and character name.

Ok thanks, I wasn't sure if it was worth making a tutorial about, so I figured I'd ask.

Edit: Wait, just making sure you know what I mean. I mean this will stay even if the world is rebooted, and the players have logged out.

It might be worth making a tutorial about, but given I've never seen you post code on the forums, I'm guessing you're a newbie. Newbies should not make tutorials.

Yeah, that part was pretty clear. Otherwise what'd be the point?

No offense meant of course, but I find most people who think they've moved past the newbie stage have not--they just haven't had enough real dialogue with better programmers to learn anything significant, either about better techniques or simply just to find out how little they really do know. Their code is often riddled with bad practices and shortcuts. A prime example is the "programming levels" thread from a while back, where so many people thought they were somewhere in the advanced realm who definitely aren't anywhere past internewbiate.

I also don't mean "newbie" strictly in the sense of being new. Plenty of people have been around for years who haven't learned a blessed thing about better programming. They're still newbies.

If you are set on making a tutorial, your best bet is to run the code by a lot of people (particularly accomplished programmers) first to get a handle on whether it's solid enough. A tutorial needs to be very very solid.
