I've been a little behind on keeping a steady stream of challenges and other things to do going, but the good news is there's a new reason to get back into it.

Thanks to SuperAntx, we at the Art Society can now award medals to challenge winners (Or whoever else we feel like, really). Be sure to favorite it if you want your medals to show up on your pages. Also if you got one, you should thank him.

He also came up with a pretty good challenge idea I plan to follow through with once Chris-g1's Not so "Superhero!" challenge has run it's course.

As for the 'what's in the works' part, I'd like to kick off a community Free Resource Request in the near future, in which we get another list of things to be made, and members from the community tackle whichever items on the list they want until it's all checked off. This would include duplicates (i.e. if two different people want to do the same thing they can). Different perspectives would also be encouraged, especially with isometric being a much more likely choice for developers. The more variety the better.

Finally, perhaps an Art Society artpack might be something fun to collaborate on?

Mockup Challenge Complete

The Art Society Mockup challenge came to a close yesterday (Nov. 2nd) after being extended by a week. We had 2 complete entries (one by Chris-G1 and one by myself for fun) and 2 incomplete ones by Reeex and The Saikyou Alliance. Discounting myself, being the guy running the challenge, Chris's entry was the only complete one (And quite well done and improved from the original version by the way), so he takes this challenge. Thanks to all our participants. I'll try to have the next 2 week challenge up and running sometime this week. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them.

Monthly Challenge: September!!!!

This september and this september only will hold the september 2009 pixel-art challenge!

What is this challenge's theme?
This time it will be all about

Limitations and rules!

|*|size must be 64/64 or bigger!
|*|32 colors or less. (black and white aren't colors so these two won't be counted)
|*|Transparency is optional.
|*|Animations is optional.
|*|Must include one of the themes.
|*|It must be pixel-art!
|*|Must be original! edits and copy's are prohibited!
|*|You can enter with as many pieces as you like, as long as they follow the rules and guidelines.

This sounds very exciting and we're hoping everyone will try to submit a piece!
The number one, two and three will be featured on the "front page"!

OpenGameArt.org is currently hosting a pixel art contest. They are looking for hair, faces, clothes, accessories, and other modifications to the base sprite sets they commisioned. The entries don't need to be extensive, just cool. Here are the sprites you'll be working with:

OpenGameArt.org is an ever-growing repository of high quality, freely licensed art and media for use in Free & Open Source game development.

A brief note to indie game developers: Please check the license of the work before using it in your closed-source game. Much of the art contained in OpenGameArt's archives is licensed in such a way that it may only be used in Open Source projects.

I've been hired to make a anime style base for the archive. I imediatly thought of the countless fan-fiction based games developed on BYOND, so I came and posted here. Here is an example of some of the animations available to the current sprite sheets:
