Just wanted to say that the announcements page hasn't had a new post since last year. Everything is a reply which means we have to dig through posts to see anything and we have no idea if there is anything worth looking for. It would be nice if announcements weren't buried in replies. It's OK to have a new threads with reoccurring topics.

I check in often to look for significant updates and they just aren't visible.

I went on vacation for a couple weeks and when I came back, messages that people sent to me in response to a Classified Ads post are no longer showing up in my "Updates" section. Where can I find those previously viewed messages?

Release: v0.4
Play Now

Completed the major overhaul to dedicated server. This change should help with a few things.

- Simply multi-player for players
- Attract more players because server is more visible
- Make it easier for players to find each other
- Allow for achievements
- Allow for easier data collection and debugging

Screenshot showing some of the basic map controls that I've added in place of interface controls.

The game is now 99% Flash compliant (to my knowledge). I only have a handful of alert dialogs I need to convert into map based dialogs.

What's Coming Soon:
- Host Option Screen
- Lobby Chat
- 100% Flash compliant
Developer Notes:
The next major milestone for the project code named "HexGame" is to revamp it so it can run many games as a single server. The game is perfect for hosting because it's turn based. This change will also increase the player base by having all players in one place which will make games easier to find.

- Added a map based splash screen with fade effect which I Uploaded to the RC as an example. Its not that I'm vane, it's just the starting point into instanced based games.
- Added map based place holder for Lobby. After the splash screen, you will land in the Lobby page where you can chat, create, or join games.

Into the foreseeable future...
I'll be adding bare minimum lobby components and updating the engine to support game instances via swapmaps. With those tasks done, I'll begin hosting and testing.

Into the unforeseen future...
I'm thinking of creative ways to expand the "hex". Resources, large maps, persistence, build up, and etc. If you have some ideas, throw em at me. Where can we take this thing?
Code:

for (var/mob/m in world)
if (m.client)
spawn()
m.client.images += oMoveHighlight
sleep(2)
if (m.client)
m.client.images -= oMoveHighlight // <-- Hit exception here

Problem description:
Hitting null exceptions in animation code when a player exits the game during an animation.

This code is spawned by one client to animate all other clients.

Is there a better design I could try?
Had two releases. Didn't post anything for v0.2 so I'm rolling it up with this release. v0.2 added two game play changes which added a decent amount of flavor in terms of strategy.

v0.3 was about getting the remaining interface components migrated to the map. I added -/+ counters for the Attrition/Recruiting round.

The next release is all about server support although I'm planning on adding a host option to hide other players unit counts which should spice things up a little bit.

What's Next?
v0.4
- Convert to dedicated host system with game lobby and multiple games per server. (Flash Support)
- Hide other players unit counts (Game Play)

Release History:
v0.3 - 9/16/2012
- Converted all interface buttons to map buttons (Flash Support)
- Converted all window dialogs to map dialogs (Flash Support)
- Added Attrition and Recruit counters as part of end round.

Notes: Conversions to all map support are 99% done. I've got one alert prompt left. Most of the work in this release was focused on functionality vs esthetics. I'd like to update all the dialogs and the counters in an upcoming release.

v0.2 - 09/11/2012
- Added in-map chat support
- Added player names, colors, and turn order to interface.
- Added host option to randomize unit generation. An owned but occupied city will generate 1d10 while an owned but unoccupied city will always generate 10 units.
- Added host option to enable random attrition based on terrain. Your chances for attrition grow when traveling over water and more so when going over mountains.
I'm hoping I can set my interface/map size to 950x550 and then work out my UI from there. Is there another way and/or another size that I should develop against?
So, I guess I can't respond to Announcements because, well, I don't know. I guess I don't pay enough to have input on that page.

I just wanted to say that I voted for NEStalgia on Steam and it is in fact a big, big, very big deal. I wish them the best.

Still concerned about the current "restrict them" business model and more importantly, the community. This is more of a feeling from someone who doesn't understand what my options are right now.

I'm not sure what other people are seeing but when I navigate around, I see very little positive chatter and lots of stale posts glued to the top of every forum.
