Out of all the crummy posts in the BYOND Discussion, why would a forum moderator move a new BYOND game testing session to Off-Topic? In what Universe does that make any sense?
Some moderators world. Those guys eat way to many ramen noodles and take their "job" way too seriously as moderators. You weren't breaking the peace at all they just wanted to be d-bags.
I think BYOND Discussion is specifically for discussion about BYOND itself ("Discuss the BYOND software or website."). Ever since the new hub rules, discussion about BYOND games without a hub entry have been moved here. Ironically, I think this thread qualifies for BYOND Discussion ;)

lol. Certainly not going for ironic. Given that the BYOND folks use announcements once a year, I think they should give it back to us for announcing our projects. Placing a new game announcement in Off Topic is just silly. Perhaps Game Updates is what I'm looking for. I must have overlooked it.
Alright, after looking at Game Updates, I can't post in there either unless I pay money to have my posts turn green (what is that about)?

How about a section for "Project Announcements"? Didn't we used to have something like that?

Game Updates is aggregated from game hub forums. I don't think you can post there directly--you have to have an approved hub and post on those forums.

I don't remember how long ago you left, but there were some big changes a while back in regards to the hubs:

The 'Creations' forum, not sure when that left... probably with the addition of the Game Updates / Demo forums. They basically cover the spectrum, but require a membership (or alternatively approved hub) to use. My understanding is basically that they're trying to increase the value of memberships by requiring them for the "premier" advertising spaces (particularly once blogs were removed).

Being a non member I think Classified Ad's might be the correct location.

Then it's not the Classifieds. It's a place for hiring or getting hired.

Ever since the blogs were removed, people no longer have the option to show off their developments without paying or posting in Off Topic, where all the rest of the blog posts have been dumped.
True although [EDIT] one of [/EDIT] his post has been moved to Classified Ads (and for good reason)

Hoping a couple people can hop on and play-test a project code named "HexGame". It's a generic risk-like right now but I plan to grow it into something more interesting.

"Recruit team members, request help on specific game needs, or advertise your skills."
The fact that its debatable where a new game concept should be posted in terms of "hey, look at what I did!" is our first clue that something isn't right.

Why did they get rid of the blogs? I thought the blogs were an awesome feature.

There was a topic on this not long ago which I believe encapsulates why they were removed quite well: [link]
Apparently they didn't enjoy dealing with the flame wars. Not sure why the business cares when a "ban" system was available but that's water under the bridge. I personally would have continued paying forever if they kept the blogs.

The blog was nice because I knew exactly where I should post my latest efforts and ideas. Now, my ideas will all land on "Off Topic" which is just a way to say "Hey, we don't care about you if you're not paying us.". Seriously, all my thoughts, games, and prototypes are considered "Off Topic". How awesome is that?

Damn it, it's more important to have a bunch of fans than a few paying customers. Read "Rework" if you need to a little pick-me-up in your go-gettum.

As I breeze through the posts, it seems to explain (at good length) why we should keep them (with a few minor changes) vs. why we removed them.
I see you've been forced in to buying a membership to dispute your game more effectively across the BYOND site.

I would like to thank you for supporting BYOND.

And the points made against the blogs were mostly 'it's too hard to moderate!'. Honestly, that's far from a good business standpoint. Tom even said it in his post, they lost Membership revenue from that. Constantly raising the prices while removing perks certainly has had a large help in that, and makes me quite sad at that. But, anything that makes you lose money should tell you that's not something you want to do as a business. The consumer's needs far outweigh the staff's needs when it comes to wanting to make money off of something.

Example:
A movie theater is the typical theater, seats, snacks, drinks, movies. SO, they decide that it's easier for the staff if there weren't any snacks, so there would be less messes to clean up. Then they realize people are still making messes in the bathroom(as they tend to do at any public rest area), so they close those! People are bringing in gum and sticking them to the chairs, lets remove those! Meanwhile, while they are removing things and closing things off, less and less people are coming and they're starting to barely make any money. How do we resolve this? I know! Double the price on all tickets! There will still people that want to see the movies bad enough to pay! That's sure to give us more money! Oh and to give them more incentive to buy tickets, you can't enter the building or park near it without buying a ticket!(But at this point, only lesser-movies want to be played in that theater, due to the lack of return they feel they'll receive from airing it there.)

Not sure if you're poking fun at me or not with the "dispute" comment.

My forum posting in Classified Ads didn't draw a very large crowd. Only a couple people logged in which didn't leave me a lot of options for getting my game tested in a timely manner. Getting a membership was the most efficient way for me to get testing done.
Sorry I wrote that on my phone I meant "distribute" sorry if you took offense.

I guess I am used to the old BYOND the free one where a hub wasn't a dollar sign for Tom.

There is an inherent fault in your logic. Tom and Lummox spend countless hours working, they deserve to be paid. A once free perk now costs the user. Years ago we used to be able to host downloadable games and have them pointed to the hub. Why should it be free for you to use their software, advertising, and bandwidth?
