My cousin got smoked by a drunk driver! :( in Off Topic

A drunk driver hit my cousin yesterday. He was driving a 1972 (I believe) Chevy pickup, and was crossing a 4-way intersection, when a drunk 40 year old female flew through a red light at over 40 Mph. My cousin did not see her coming, so preceded to cross the intersection. She then hit his front-end, causing his wheel to fall off, and the truck to spin 5 times into a 2002 Dodge 4x4 diesel truck. My cousins truck then proceeded to flip on its side, and slide down the rode, the whole while my cousins girlfriends arm was hanging out the window. This is a prime example of how fast things happen. We unfortunately tossed the newspaper with the picture in it of the accident, but when I find another copy of it I will surely post it.

My cousin suffered a minor concussion, and my cousins girlfriends arm is road burned. They have a few cuts and broses, but thank god they were in a truck, otherwise they might not have been so lucky.

Hmmm, are you sure the paper would come out right on scanner? I never tried scanning newspaper stuff...

Depending on the settings of the scanning you wish to perform, then yes it would.

A colour scan would be ok, but while news papers are generally black and white, this would be a little de-graded when scanning.

Black and white scanning would be a good scan, but compared to the grey-scale scan, it wouldn't produce as good a quality, although, better than the colour scan.

As for the best quality scan for a newspaper, your option would have to be a grey-scale scan choice.

Yup.. My grandma scanned some really old pictures out of a newspaper a few days ago, they turned out alright.

It really pisses me off when I hear about people that will put other's life on the line just so they can get home after they already made the decision to drink too much.


People using cell phones in their cars are annoying too: A few months ago, we had a girl curve off the road and onto the sidewalk, taking out my neighbor's and our trashcan, then kept going to run over our mail box and nearly the fire hydrant at the corner of our house.

This was a suburb road and people are always walking in front of my house, sometimes even as late as 2:00 in the morning (this happened around 10:00 at night.). If someone would have been there on the sidewalk, based on how fast the stupid girl was driving, they would have been in killed.

Yup, i dont even get why they have to drink in the first place( please dont respond on this with something like, because it makes you feel better, because if they had common sense, they would know, it only makes you feel better when you drink, not after). One reason i think drinking should be agenst the law, but we all know what happend last time the government tryed that, so im not sure it would help. Point being, if your going to drink, do it at home, and dont drive when drunk, I MEAN IT, ill hunt you down, and smack you untill your all red if you do, dont test me.

my sentiments exactly.

with all these annoying commercials about how marijuana can kill you come to realize that marijuana is less deadly than alcohol.. yet alcohol is completely legal.

Drunk driving is illigal, well so is driving under the influence of marijuana..

These two drugs, Alcohol and Marijuana or almost equals and so I believe that they should either be both illigal, or both legal but heavily monitored.

I believe that a drunk driver is indeed making a conscious decision to endanger others and their own lives therefore it is a malicious and forethought act. any deaths resulting in drunk driving is then murder in the 1st degree.. the proof is in the act AND the presense of alcohol. or in this case.. marijuana..

The law must be more strict on these, and implementing heavy fines is not significant enough.

first act of driving under the influence - 3 to 12 months without a license

second act of driving under the influence - permanent loss of license

driving without a license and under the influenc- 2 years prison and the car becomes scrap metal.

if the car does not belong to them they are obligated to pay off every penny towards the insurance collected. through bank account or government seizure

Though punishment will make ones life hell that caused such an act, it shall never bring remorse to those who have lost another do to this cowardice person. Life goes on for them and their family, but not always for the lives of the lost family member's...

Oh btw, i know people may not agree with me on this, but good and evil is very much still a solid line between the two. and at all times, after all is said and done "I don't care" is what evil people say in defense.

Sorry to hear about your cousin, but glad everyone walked away from it. Too often that's not the case, as with Goku72's brother. :( I knew a family back in high school who were hit by a drunk driver while going to get a Christmas tree. Three of them survived with major injuries, but the mom died on the spot. One moment of indiscretion on the the part of the drunk driver can change lives for the worse.

This is why I think there ought to be much tougher penalties on drunk driving. 6 months in jail plus no driver's license for 10 years ought to give people time to think about what they almost did. 5 years in jail and no more license period for the second offense. I think that's totally reasonable given the potential devastating outcomes. Unfortunately in the US, it'll never happen. Too many people think they can handle it and would complain of harsh penalties. Add to that the fact that most people driving drunk are able to get home without incident, either by luck or chance, so they have a false sense that it's not that big of a deal. Oh, and all those lawmakers who get caught driving drunk sometimes... they wouldn't want to give themselves real penalties either!

I got hit by a drunk driver about 6 years ago. Thankfully Tom (yes, that Tom) was in the back seat behind me and not in the front passenger seat because we'd just dropped off another friend. I don't know if BYOND would be here today if he'd been in that seat, since the car was hit from the right side. We walked away with bumps and bruises, but the vehicle was totaled.

They say the average person can expect to be in 3 major car accidents in their lifetime. That was #1 for me. Hopefully I do just as well in the next two!

I am very sorry for your cousin. Like many others have said, its a good thing they both got to walk out alive.


I was once in a Car accident when I was 5. There was a "T" intersection. No lights, just a simple stop sign. We stopped, saw a van coming. It had its blinker on to turn onto the road we were on. We pulled out into the intersection, (the van had already been slowing down to turn), and then BAM! The van actually totaled the whole car. I was sitting in the back seat. That window had been shattered. My life was saved by a stuffed "Pooh-Bear" toy. After the accident I noticed the shards of glass in pooh's head. Theres a lot more, including the driver lieing to the police, saying he wasn't going to turn. Pfft.

P.S. This has nothing to do with drunk driving, just a car accident I was once in.
P.S.S My arm was broken....Smashed against the inside of the car (How many times does that happen....)

I just remembered my first car crash. It was 10 years ago, when I was five like Airjoe was. :( My aunt, the one who had married into the family, was taking me, my sister, her evil nephew, and his little brother to go see santa. We went and were on our way back. I was about 2 and a half feet tall and was in the back seat so I didn't know where we were. We were straight out of the ghetto so her car was of course small, compact, and ragedy.*no child support*

I remember thinking about what we did at the place where we saw santa and all of a sudden the rear window had shattered and I got whiplash. Ouch. My aunt's car was trashed and her and her sister had a few choice words for the driver. She even got out in the middle of the street and started arguing. After all, that driver had endangered three young lives. It was a long time ago and I was young so I don't remember much. But I do know my aunt had gotten a neck brace after the ordeal and got paid. :) Yay. I'm not sure if it was a drunk driven accident, but according to statistics it probably was.
