They're doing/did it because of the new client/script var, which eliminates the need for .dms files.
Nonsense. client/script is definitely not new. It's been in for AGES.
I suspect that if it does have a purpose, it's paving the way to 4.0, where DMS files will either be redundant or completely revamped. After all, the two uses of DMS files in games are macros and interface control (text colours and such); 4.0 will have a completely new interface designing system, so that part at least will be obsolete. I have no idea about the macros. But that's just a personal educated guess, so don't take this as fact. =)
Many things! DMS files facilitate Join/Connect/Download links on the website, save certain Dream Seeker settings, allows game authors to change the colours of the text box in Dream Seeker, and allows game authors to set up macros specific to their games.
Weird, I wonder why they would do that.
You can just type in "blah.dms" in the text box, and it will make a .dms file. A simple workaround (and faster).
