I'm just posting this in case someone is searching for information on the man who is missing in Allegany state park. I've walked all of the trails in the park, many of the trails I've walked many times, and I've walked the black snake trail during every season of the year.

I would be responding to the above post, but I have to wait for a moderator to approve my registration. In lieu of that, I'll simply state here that the picture that the daughter drew of the structure resembles an old cabin. Many such structures still have their foundations and and old stones in the park. The shape looks like a fireplace, but one would have to ignore the dimensions, which make it more of something else, likely a cabin or shed.

It should also be realized that at one point not long ago logging was done extensively in this park. As a consequence, part of black snake trail for instance occupies an old railroad bed which is obvious because of the grade which never really exceeds 3 percent.

The summit area of the park where the man and daughter went missing is actually rather easy to lock down if you consider that if they had gone south it's only about a half mile or so before they would have met the paved road of route 1. Going east leads us to more road so that's unlikely. Just north of the summit is a series of homes--so it's unlikely they went north. That leaves west. But whether they went northwest or southwest is the problem. If I had to bet, I'd guess they went northwest as no one ever goes that way and a structure as unusual as the one the daughter describes could easily go missing there.

If someone could get a hold of logging maps however, one might be able to piece together a likely area to look for the man.

Just my thoughts anyway.
