With Mitt Romney bowing out of the presidential race, it seems John McCain will be the Republican nominee (unless Mitt throws his support and delegates behind Huckabee, which seems unlikely). Assuming it's a choice between McCain and Clinton/Obama, I guess this will be another lesser-of-two-evils presidential election. All conspiracy theories aside, for better or for worse, we will end up with yet another Council on Foreign Relations president.

Personally, I'll probably "throw my vote away" by voting third party or simply writing in Ron Paul even if he isn't running. Speaking to those who consider a vote for Ron Paul a wasted vote (even before the primaries started), why bother voting at all if all you're going to do is elect whoever the mainstream media tells you to elect? Do you honestly believe the "scientific" polls are unbiased? Do you get some sort of satisfaction from picking the winner, even if you don't agree with the person you voted for? Isn't the idea to vote for whoever you think is the best candidate? If you say that voting for the person you think would do the best job is a wasted vote, then you have no concept of what it is to be an American.

I had a great time waving signs with other Ron Paul supporters here in town. We usually managed to get between 10-15 people together on Friday afternoons for sign wavings. What other candidate had supporters so loyal that they would give up their Friday afternoons to show their support? None. Not a single candidate. In fact, up until the 2 weeks before the election in my state, there was no sign that any candidate OTHER than Ron Paul was even running. No signs, nothing. And even then, the 2 or 3 people the other candidates had out waving signs on election day looked pathetic when compared to any given sign waving we'd had for the past, what... 6 months? 3-4 wavings each month? But I digress...

What point was I going to make with this? Oh yes... Trolls! Both on the internet and in real life. I can't tell you how many times, while standing on a street corner supporting my candidate, people have rolled down their windows and shouted obscenities at me and/or flipped me off. How can you interpret these displays? "Screw you for supporting your candidate! even though I'm too lazy to show support for my own!" "I'm not going to enter into intelligent debate with you; so screw you!" This is one messed up country.

The same goes for the internet trolls. Each time I posted a topic for debate, there always seemed to be one or more people who, instead of debating whatever topic I was addressing, simply wanted to say "Ron Paul sucks!" or wanted to change the topic entirely. To those of you who fit this category, feel free to go to Hell at the earliest possible convenience.

To those of you who joined in the debate, whether for or against Ron Paul's positions, thanks for taking part. People will always have differences in opinion, but it's better to talk about the differences and debate the pros and cons of each than to simply defame whatever you don't agree with.

Two good things have come out of the Ron Paul campaign. First, nationally, we're now talking seriously about real conservative issues (like reduction in the size of government) and people have begun to realize that neo-conservatives are not actually conservative at all. Second, on a personal level, I've begun to pay attention to politics and take part in the political process. 4 years ago I didn't even bother to vote. I didn't follow the presidential campaigns at all, and I didn't care who won. But now I can say, like thousands of others, that Dr. Ron Paul cured my apathy.
Sorry I haven't posted lately. Given the amount of enmity I receive each time I post, I haven't had much motivation for doing so. But there's one issue that so many people point to, to discredit Ron Paul, that I have to address it.

The story goes, Ron Paul's newsletter printed racist remarks targeted against black people ~20 years ago. These remarks have since been dredged up by the media every time an opponent stands to benefit. The problem with this story is that:

1) it wasn't his newsletter (though he did lend his name to it),
2) he didn't write the articles in question and
3) even if you don't believe statement (2), his political career and everything he stands for flies in the face of these very statements

an article with a more complete discussion:
http://www.freemarketnews.com/WorldNews.asp?nid=41822

"Says one source, 'Ron Paul didn’t know about those comments, or know they were written under his name until much later when they were brought to his attention. There were several issues that went out with comments that he would not ordinarily make. He was angry when he saw them.'"

Now let's take a look at just how big of a racist Ron Paul really is... He's the only candidate who wants to end the failing "War on Drugs" and actually pardon all non-violent drug offenders in federal prison. Statistically, who makes up the largest percentage of non-violent drug offenders in federal prison? I'll give you a hint: it isn't white people. Who does the War on Drugs hurt the most? without a doubt, the African American community as a whole. Knowing this, ask yourself what kind of self-respecting racist would want to end the "War on Drugs" and pardon non-violent drug offenders?

Another issue that people like to point to is a donation of $500 to the Ron Paul campaign by a white supremacist. Most politicians would have given the man his money back at first opportunity to avoid being associated with the white supremacist movement. Ron Paul decided to keep the money. "OMG HE IS TEH WHITE SUPREMACIST!! HURR!1!111" No, not quite.

Ron Paul's campaign is about liberty and personal freedom. You, as an individual, have the right to donate your money to any (or none) of the candidates running for office, at your discretion. Once your money has been donated, the politician is free to use it for campaign purposes however they choose. Ron Paul has no obligation to the person donating the money other than to use it for campaigning. And as Ron Paul has said, by keeping the $500 for the campaign, that's $500 that the white supremacist won't be able to use to promote the white supremacist message.

Failure to understand this simple concept would imply silly things like, if someone dresses up as a Nazi and attends a rally for Hillary Clinton, then Hillary Clinton is a Nazi. Use some common sense when analyzing mainstream media propaganda.
Who Are These Kooks?

According to the Associated Press, "Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul's supporters raised over $6 million Sunday to boost the 10-term congressman's campaign for the White House."

The AP report also said, "The [Paul] campaign's previous fundraiser brought in $4.2 million."

According to the Paul campaign website, "In a 24-hour period on December 16, the campaign raised $6.026 million dollars, surpassing the one-day record of $5.7 million held by John Kerry.

"During the day, over 58,000 people contributed to Dr. Paul's campaign, including 24,940 first-time donors. Over 118,000 Americans have donated to the campaign in the fourth quarter.

"The $6 million one-day total means the campaign has raised over $18 million this quarter, far exceeding its goal of $12 million."

Now, if one listens to most of the political pundits in the major media, Ron Paul is some kind of "kook," and his supporters are also a bunch of "kooks." So, the question must be asked, Just who are these kooks that are supporting him, and why are they giving Ron Paul all this money?

First, let's take a look at this "kook" who is receiving all this money. Ron Paul was born the third son of Howard and Margaret Paul, and was brought up with a work ethic in which one worked six days a week and went to church on Sunday. His first job was at age 5 helping his uncle wash bottles. He worked all the way through his youth mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, working in a drug store, delivering furniture and laundry, etc.

In high school, Ron was a track star, winning state as a junior in the 220-yard dash and running 2nd in the 440. His time in the 100-yard dash was 9.8. That's pretty good. I was never able to break 10-flat in the 100. Although, I bet I could have beaten him in the 50-yard dash. He also wrestled in high school. Coincidentally, so did I. But here Ron leaves me: he was president of the student council and an honor student. I never accomplished that. I was just glad to get promoted to the next grade. Even as a senior statesman, Ron Paul keeps himself in terrific shape. Have you seen him lately? He still maintains a rigorous exercise regimen.

Ron's two brothers are both ministers, and he became a medical doctor. He graduated from Duke University School of Medicine. When the Cuban Missile Crisis arose, Ron became a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. He also served in the Air National Guard.

As an OB/GYN physician, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies, and he and his wife, Carol, have been married for more than 50 years. They have 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Ron Paul is currently in his 10th term as a congressman from Texas.

As a congressman, Ron Paul has never taken a government-paid junket. He is not accepting a government pension. He returns a portion of his office budget every year to the taxpayers. As a member of Congress, he has never voted a raise for himself. Do you know any other member of Congress that can make such a claim? Of course you don't, because Ron Paul is truly one-of-a-kind.

Former President Ronald Reagan said this about Ron Paul, "Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country."

Perhaps this helps explain why many of the "kooks" supporting Ron Paul are active-duty military personnel. In fact, Ron Paul has received more campaign contributions from active-duty military personnel than any other Presidential candidate from either party.

But who are the other "kooks" supporting Ron Paul? What kind of people give more than $18 million in a quarter-year to a Presidential candidate that is almost universally ignored by the mainstream press? What kind of people give record contributions to a Presidential candidate that is lampooned by his fellow Republican Presidential contenders?

For example, Mike Huckabee recently said he could support any of the other Republican Presidential contenders (including Rudy Giuliani), except Ron Paul. That means, Mike Huckabee would rather support a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control liberal such as Giuliani than support the pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, pro-Second Amendment candidacy of Ron Paul. Why is that?

Furthermore, why are the entire major media and establishment Republican machine either ignoring or lampooning a distinguished Air Force veteran, medical doctor, and ten-term Congressman? What is it about Ron Paul that the elite are so afraid of?

Here is something else: while Ron Paul's contributions have exploded, Mike Huckabee is all but broke! How can that be? How can a political "front-runner" be out of money, while a man who "doesn't have a chance" is breaking fundraising records?

So, who are these "kooks" who are sending Ron Paul so much money? And just why are they sending him so much money? I will tell you who they are, because I am one of them. They are rank-and-file, tax-paying citizens who are sick and tired of out-of-control federal spending and deficits. They have had it with an arrogant federal government that runs roughshod over both the Constitution and the liberties of the American people. They are people who have had enough of the IRS, the BATFE, and a thousand other federal agencies that have "erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance." (Declaration of Independence)

They are people who see through the phony, disingenuous federal politicians who only want to fleece the American citizenry for the purpose of building their own personal fortunes. They have had it with the Military-Industrial complex that desires to build international empires at the expense of the blood and sacrifice of the American people. They have had it with David Rockefeller and his Council on Foreign Relations. They have had it with the arrogance of George W. Bush and Nancy Pelosi.

They are sick and tired of paying outlandish taxes for a public education system that produces high school graduates who cannot read and write. They are sick and tired of working for 30 years to pay off a mortgage, only then to be forced to pay extortion money (a.k.a. property taxes) for the rest of their lives to the feudal state. They are sick and tired of the government telling them what they can and cannot do with their own property. They are sick and tired of watching people with food stamps buy T-bone steaks and expensive Nike tennis shoes while they are forced to buy fatty hamburger and cheap sneakers.

They are sick and tired of watching their manufacturing jobs go to China and India. They have had it with money-hungry businessmen who hire illegal Mexicans at slave labor wages. They have had it with labor unions promoting politicians who support NAFTA, CAFTA, and the FTAA. They are sick and tired of being bled dry at the gas pump.

They have had it with this phony "war on terrorism" that sends trillions of dollars to nations throughout the Middle East, but refuses to close our own borders to illegal immigration. They have had it with the "war on drugs" and the "war on terror" being used as excuses to trample people's freedoms. They have had it with Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderon. They have had it with Bush's North American Union. They have had it with Joel Osteen and Rick Warren. In short, they have just had it!

They also know that a vote for any other Presidential candidate is a vote for more of the same. Democrat or Republican: it is more of the same. Ron Paul, and Ron Paul alone, will bring a revolution of freedom and independence to America. Believe me, the Ron Paul revolution is bigger than Ron Paul. This is the beginning of a movement.

No matter what ultimately happens to Ron Paul's candidacy, the fight to return America to its roots of freedom and independence has started. The fire is lit. There is no putting it out. There will be other Ron Pauls, other campaigns, other spokesmen, other fundraising. The people supporting Ron Paul will not be silenced; they will not be ignored; they will not be intimidated. In truth, Ron Paul's campaign may just be the beginning of the end of the elitist, globalist, stranglehold over America.

As one who is also fed up with the globalist goons that dominate the two major parties, I join the Ron Paul revolution and vow to fight for the rest of my life for the freedom and independence of these United States. This means I will never again support a business-as-usual, millionaires-club, globalist toady from either party ever again! I will only support candidates who are fully committed to restoring constitutional government. If that makes me a kook, so be it.
from www.obamala.com:

My name is Marc Whittemore. I started the original grassroots group ObamaLA and carried it until it was 2,500 people strong. Having done substantially more homework now I am inclined to switch my vote.

Make no mistake about it -- I think Obama would make a decent President -- well at least far better than any other stale "part of the problem" Democrat running. However in case you have not noticed America is picking up "flush momentum" and we are going down the tubes FAST. We no longer have time for rehearsals or inexperience. We MUST get it right and get it right this time. We don't even have the luxury of voting along party lines if we are to get it right.

And so. Even more surprising is that for the first time in my 32 years of voting I will be voting for a Republican president. And that Republican is Ron Paul. Listen people. And take the time to listen CLOSELY to Ron Paul -- because, like the last, we can ill afford one more drastic idiot mistake in the White House. Lives depend on making the right choice -- indeed our entire nation depends on the right choice this time.

exerpt from e-mail by Marc Whittemore:

"Thank you. I am flattered for all the attention albeit... I think,
undeserving. To be honest I have never been a politically involved person.
I only got involved in this election because at the time of my involvement
(and still for that matter) I was suffering from an acute, chronic and
ever-escalating case of seething resentment for what Bush (et. al) has done
to the country. Enter Obama. His oratory skills, coupled with the ample
energy of my resentment fueled something inside me to want to help change
things and make things right. With blinders on I went for it.
..."

"... Then... then I found Ron Paul. WOW. And Obama/Clinton just seemed to
become more about battling egos trying to win the grand prize.. Obama
beginning to sound like all the rest - talking shit all about who's health
plan can beat up who's health plan... suddenly gaining a full-on Southern
accent when campaigning in the South. Maybe in politics eventually the
contenders are just forced to be like all the rest... but Obama's talk
seemed to peter out - sounding empty when compared to what Ron Paul was
talking about. The stuff about doing away with the thieving IRS and the
Federal Reserve - talking about our disappearing civil liberties and getting
them back... talking about what made this country GREAT! the REAL guts of
this country called the Constitution. NOT the constitution as he chooses to
interpet it (like the current [administration]*) but the REAL DEAL and how to get
back to that!!! Don't get me wrong. I still adore Obama and I think he's
make an awesome President but ONLY IF Ron Paul does not get it.

In my perfect world - we'd have Ron Paul president and Obama V.P. ..."

an e-mail sent by a member of the local Ron Paul Meetup group

---------------------------------------------------

read it, share it, spread it around if you want to....

A Soldiers Personal Revolution

I joined the Army in the early months of 2001; my patriotism led me to the recruiter’s office. I had grown up in awe of my grandfathers and their stories of World War II, and their reminiscing became my dreams. When I got to basic training I did not talk about missing home like the other recruits around me, I felt at home in ways I never had before.

The weeks after 9/11 found me in Kosovo, part of C co 3/7 Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division, patrolling the border with Macedonia as part of our duties. We had ammunition to defend ourselves with and the authority to apprehend anyone crossing the border illegally. I will get back to why these details are important later.

Fast forward to 2003, I am rolling across the desert in the back of a Bradley fighting vehicle, part of the spearhead into Iraq. Other than those first three weeks of “Shock and Awe” what I remember most about Iraq was the people. Crowds of kids wanting to know about Michael Jackson and Britney Spears, open-minded adults wanted to know about our social freedoms, and ninety some percent of Iraqis just wanted to raise their families in peace and did not hesitate to tell us. I really fell in love with the Iraqi people. My platoon and I played soccer with some of those crowds of kids, we had dinner and shared food with families in their homes, we even went to a few house parties, and my lieutenant and I spent one very memorable afternoon swimming in an irrigation ditch with five young women. It is all of them I think of when anyone tells me we need to turn the Middle East into a sheet of glass or that all Muslims are our enemies.

I remember thinking on this briefly when I was there, but more so since I’ve returned, usually when I’m day dreaming behind the wheel of my van, but what we were doing when we were doing our jobs, patrolling the streets, conducting road blocks vehicle searches, bodily searching individuals, and searching houses, couldn’t be helping our long range plans for winning hearts and minds. I really have to wonder, how long would it take me to move from a position of thanks for my despotic government being removed to feeling like I lived in a conquered and occupied country if I saw foreign troops on the streets of my hometown Tallahassee everyday? Add to this our having bases and troops in Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia, ( I may have missed a few, we have approximately 700 bases in 130 countries ) some of them for decades, our Navy of their coast, our fighter jets in their sky’s , the CIA in business with monarchs, dictators and thugs, and our State Department treating their leaders like irresponsible children, it’s no wonder moderate Muslims takes to the streets shouting “ Death to America” and a minority takes action against us. I would expect we would be doing the same thing if say, China had bases on our soil, and her Navy patrolled our coastline and Chinese fighter jets streaked across our sky. In short, this is all hard to admit, but our actions do have consequences.

Fast forward again to the present day, I am out of active duty, and in the Army Reserves. (I wanted to stay active duty, but my wife said I would be single, so we had a compromise.)To be honest the reserves has bored me to tears and I haven’t felt like I’m giving anything back to my country, so I looked into getting attached to a National Guard unit on our border with Mexico for a tour or two. However, when I learned they don’t have the authority to apprehend illegal border crossers and can only call up our overworked and overstretched border patrol when they spot illegal activity, I got myself in trouble again by thinking - about what I had done in Kosovo and about what I knew our military had done to our own people in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina ( disarmed law abiding civilians only trying to protect themselves when the police had failed to do so) . To add insult to injury, our Guardsmen and women on our own border don’t have ammunition and have on several documented occasions actually had to retreat when facing fire from Mexican paramilitary groups. Now why would I want to sign up for that? To be witness to the violation of America’s sovereignty? No one in the Executive branch of our government is doing anything about it, and it makes me wonder why I am even in the Army at all.

Why are we the worlds policeman when our own country is being openly violated? Why are we borrowing money hand over fist from nations not exactly our friends, just to spend it on our out of control foreign policy? I am starting to feel like the powers that be do not have America’s interests in mind at all. It’s starting to feel like our ruin is their objective. From our factories closing and moving overseas, to the plunging value of our dollar, America is crumbling. Yet I love her far to much to watch her fall apart.

This is why I am taking my personal revolution and joining forces with Dr. Ron Paul’s revolution. His “bring all the troops home” non-intervention foreign policy and plans to put America first again are just what we need at this time in our history. I don’t expect you to agree with everything he says, but I do hope we can all put our differences aside and join him in seeing that ALL the troops come home, the Republic is restored and America saved. Thank you and God Bless.
Entangling Alliances

Entangling Alliances
by Rep. Ron Paul
-------------------------------------------------

In the name of clamping down on "terrorist uprisings" in Pakistan, General Musharraf has declared a state of emergency and imposed martial law. The true motivations behind this action however, are astonishingly transparent, as the reports come in that mainly lawyers and opposition party members are being arrested and harassed. Supreme Court justices are held in house arrest after indicating some reluctance to certify the legitimacy of Musharraf's recent re-election.

Meanwhile, terrorist threats on US interests may be more likely to originate from Pakistan, a country to which we have sent $10 billion.

Now we are placed in the difficult position of either continuing to support a military dictator who has taken some blatantly un-Democratic courses of action, or withdrawing support and angering this nuclear-capable country. The administration is carefully negotiating this tight-rope by "reviewing Pakistan's foreign aid package" and asking Musharraf to relinquish his military title and schedule elections.

By the time he complies with the requests of the White House sufficiently to continue to receive his "allowance," courtesy of the American taxpayer, his mission will be accomplished. A more friendly Supreme Court will be installed and enough of the opposition party will be jailed or detained to assure an outcome of the elections that will meet with his approval. All the while, our administration lauds Musharraf as a trusted friend and ally. So much for a War on Terror. So much for making the world safe for democracy.

Free trade means no sanctions against Iran, or Cuba or anyone else for that matter. Entangling alliances with no one means no foreign aid to Pakistan, or Egypt, or Israel, or anyone else for that matter. If an American citizen determines a foreign country or cause is worthy of their money, let them send it, and encourage their neighbors to send money too, but our government has no authority to use hard-earned American taxpayer dollars to mire us in these nightmarishly complicated, no-win entangling alliances.

When we look at global situations today, the words of our founding fathers are becoming more relevant daily. We need to understand that a simple, humble foreign policy makes us less vulnerable and less targeted on the world stage. Pakistan should not be getting an "allowance" from us and we should not be propping up military dictators that oppress people. We should mind our own business and stop the oppressive taxation of Americans that makes this meddling possible.

an unusual (and also entertaining) perspective
Reverend John Killian at the West Alabama straw poll:

"It's too easy to forget that this election isn't about the candidates or their campaigns.
This election is about you.
This is [an] election about the next generation.
It's about the principles that founded this great land.
And they're the principles that are advocated by Congressman Ron Paul."

part 1

part 2

The results of the straw poll are at the end of part 2.

I'll start posting about more serious topics starting this weekend.

And for anyone who watches the videos and replies, "John C. Calhoun a patriot? No way! He supported slavery!!11one1", keep in mind that a major theme of the speech was states' rights, and Calhoun was a proponent of nullification (states being able to call national legislation unconstitutional and not follow it).

(But this isn't a forum to discuss the evils of slavery, which I'm sure we can all agree on, so don't even bother.)

I decided to take a break from posting serious issues for the day and instead focus on "scientific" polls.
The following is intended for mature audiences only due to strong language.
Viewer discretion is advised.

Penn and Teller on Frank Luntz:

Frank Luntz on Hannity & Colmes before debate:

Frank Luntz on Hannity & Colmes regarding debate winner:

humorous interpretation of Frank Luntz segment:
(Colmes is the Easter Bunny)
