Anime request. in Off Topic

I never got into anime until just recently, when I revised Death Note again.

So I pose this question to those who may know a few anime's that may or may not interest me. (My own opinion if I do not like it/them so don't take it to heart if I say it's not my "cup of tea.")
I am looking for an anime that is based on an "intellectual battle." For example in Death Note it was Light Yagami facing off against L, Near and Mello.
But I also want those who will recommend me an anime based on my requirements, to take in the account I don't want an anime that has no story and isn't just about two/more "squabbling" about who is right or wrong.

aawh, u have the standard which i asume you already are familiar with: Naruto, bleach, Bakuman(really cool), One piece, Gintama & Dragon crisis...

Don't watch all of them, but most of them seems fairly good.

Those arn't what i'm looking for.

Naruto is a given, the reason I got involved with Byond.

Bleach never interested me.
Bakuman seems interesting, it being produced by the same producer of Death Note.
I am over One Piece.
Unfamiliar with Gintama.

Code Geass (I actually can't take it as an intellectual piece, but many throw that up in relation to Death Note)

None of the anime listed so far besides Code Geass are at all what you asked for. I don't think they read your post beyond, "I need anime recommendations."

If you want a battle of wits or political intrigue you should watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's 110 episodes long with none of that filler long shows are usually associated with. It originally ran from December 1988 to March 1997 so the animation is quite old but it still gets the job done. Watch this if you don't care about not having tons of action scenes and flashy effects.

Another show I can think of would be Shiki. It has a similar vibe to Death Note but it's about a doctor trying to figure out what the hell's happening to his town. It's vampires. Lots of people die. Some brutally.

If you're open to various mediums, I recommend looking at http://vndb.org/v211. It's basically Death Note without the note premise (there is an English translation so don't worry about the images being in Japanese).

My favourites out of those recommended (without considering relevance to Death Note) are Monster, N.H.K. and LotGH probably.

That's right! N.H.K is good. Only thing is I didn't really like the ending. They could of made it more romancy. Even though I'm more of an action fan, that kind of ending would have been way better.
