What does anyone think is a good GPA to have to get into collage (along with good scores for the SAT tests and stuff)?
It depends what college you want to go to. Go to collegeboard.com, and search for colleges. Each college has its own standards. But, if you want to get into a Decent college, you would need a math and verbal combination of around 1000 or higher, and for the new sat's maybe like... 1600's. GPA, around a 3.0

... 1600s on the SATs? That's not even good enough to get into community college here in California! Seriously, 1600 out of 2400, that's a horrible score. Heck, the UCs in California have raised their GPA requirements to 3.75 from 3.5. CSUs are raising their requirements too.

Don't forget SATII subject tests and AP tests. While you're at it, you might as well take the ACT too.
No offense, but if you can't even spell 'college' right I don't think you should be thinking about attending one just yet.

Not true, the UC's don't explicitly state a GPA requirement and they use a sliding scale: The higher the SAT the lower the Grade requirement to get in.

Which is good for me, because I'm in probably the 98% of my class nationally on the test scores, but my GPA is about 3.6 right now.

Odd, I read somewhere that there was a requirement. A packet from one of the school districts around here (not my own, however.)

It was probably like a "We recommend you have at least this GPA" kind of thing.

Not true. The community college in my area is one of the top 10 community colleges in the country (I think it is ranked 3 or 4. Yes, I live in the United States). It does not matter what your GPA or SAT scores are to get in.

I was exaggerating on that part. :P
Community Colleges aren't exactly great... and school rankings by newspapers and magazines are always misrepresentative.

I'm soon to be applying for college. I'm actually scared. I'm one of those lazy bastards who never does his work and killed his GPA. Anyone who is a freshman, don't make the same mistake I did. I have like a 2.8. I'm hoping to make it up with my scores, but my PSAT wasn't all that great of an indicator. I'm supposed to make a 1640.

Moral: Don't screw around in high school. It really is important.

I think it was 60 semesteral units to transfer from Community College to a UC. That's a lot. It's probably lower for colleges/universities elsewhere.

Yeah. I used to have a GPA of 2.00 (just around there). This 10 weeks (our school year is in quarters) though, I failed Spanish and got really low marks, which is not helping me. I am determined to actually take notes so that my teachers don't get mad at me (they are graded for some strange reason).

I did the same. :[

It is not all that bad. All through high school I would party, drink, smoke, etc. and my grades were either decent or below decent. You know what? I got accepted to every college I wanted to get into. There is nothing to be scared about. You would be suprised of what colleges would accept you with a 2.8. It is not like you are going to get into MIT, Harvard or any of the sort, but if you could, could you afford it? Just go to a decent college where they can help you with what you want to major in, and just have fun, and learn.

Well...I was going to go to the community collage (MCC) and they say that I can get an associates in Computer Science and transfer if I wish (I might). So I don't think it will hurt if my GPA isn't 3.5 or higher. Though if I applied myslef to do all of the work then I could get above that.

I was going to say the same thing, xD
Colleges look at weighted GPA, remember that. Just take a bunch of Honors and AP courses, and do well in them. That should get you into many colleges.

If you can manage a B in every course with Honors / AP, you should have a weighted GPA around 4.00 and that's good enough.

You might also want to study for the AP exams so you can get college credits, as well. It's one less course that has to be payed for, and colleges like to know that you can do college-level work.

I haveen't taken any AP courses though I have already gotten credits for college (in what I forgot). I will be taking all of them next year (cept' keyboarding).

They don't look at them all the time. Last year, UCs asked for unweighted GPAs.

It probably depends on the college. I think that the really prestigious (did I spells that right?) colleges such as Harvard probably look at it unweighted.
