Today I'd like to finally show off some of the first screenshots of the upcoming skill trees:

Shown here is one of the Ranger's three trees (not finalized), and as you can see a lot of points have already been invested. The green boxes indicate skills that have been learned, and as you progress through the tree the downward arrows open up additional branches.

Characters will still learn a base set of spells/abilities, but investing points in the skill trees will allow them to learn additional unique abilities as well. You'll earn one skill point for each level, and all in all you'll probably be able to fill up about 35% of the three trees. That means that there are a lot of decisions to make about how you'd like to customize and play your class.

These aren't mockups, these are screenshots of the system actually up and running in the game. There is still a lot of testing to be done, but this new system will hopefully be released on the live servers by the end of the month.

There are more screenshots and tidbits of information to come. Soldiers and Merchants in particular have some surprises on the way, so I'll be sure to elaborate on those soon ;)

Hey it looks pretty awesome.

One question though, off subject is when will be see the Huds and OnScreen text Gold version?
Here goes my incredible strength... I hope I won't find this complicated.

New players won't start investing points until level 5, and you'll be walked through it with a short (optional) tutorial.

If need be we'll add the option to have the game auto-invest people's skill points in a balanced way so that beginners don't get intimidated by it. That said, it's actually pretty simple and easy to understand.

Good question. My plans to release that got derailed by the NEStalgia explosion back in February, but I still have it half-finished on my hard drive. I've been meaning to work on it but just haven't found the time yet. It's definitely still on my radar though, so perhaps later this summer or sometime in the fall I'll finally get around to completing it.
I love your skill tree progression. It looks marvelous. So would it take all of your skill points to max out one tree?
So is there any way that we can reset our skill trees? Because people are going to mess it up. They will, and will want to reset it at some point.

Yup, the existing scrolls for resetting Milestones and Moon Blessings will be converted into a single scroll for Skill Tree resets. Also, that will no longer be a subscriber-only item.
Cool. Can't wait to see it up and running.

'Acquired' is spelled wrong. :)
I take it this is going to replace the seeds system?

Seeds will still be in the game, but Moon Blessings and Milestones are being replaced by this.
You stated that Moon Blessings are being replaced. So buying the GMB would be a waste on new alts then? I have been out of the loop for a few months.

No, they're getting replaced with an equivalent value under the new system. I wouldn't do something like that with an update.
