The city council of New York has voted to ban the use of the word "nigger".

The resolution to ban the so-called "N-word" is largely symbolic as it carries no weight in law and those who use the word would face no punishment.

But it reflects a growing unease that the racial slur is now part of everyday conversation and that the taboo against its usage has been swept away.

The word is in common usage among sections of the younger generation in the United States.

'Throwback to slavery'

For many years the "N-word" has been used by young African Americans who have appropriated it as a, perhaps ironic, term of endearment.

Now, other ethnic groups have started to use it in a similar context, and those who insist it should be banned are growing increasingly outraged.

Many African American community leaders, with the backing of fellow lawmakers, say it is offensive in every context and that is a word which should never be said.

For them the word is loaded with offensiveness.

They regard it as degrading and a throwback to the times of slavery when blacks were regarded as sub-human, to be bought and sold by their white owners.

The New York City resolution was sponsored by Councilman Leroy Comrie, who says the "N-word" was derived solely out of hate and anger and that its meaning cannot be changed.

But for America's so-called hip-hop generation using the word among themselves is about self-empowerment.

Its usage is habitual and seems culturally fixed and to stop it is likely to take a change in their attitudes rather than an edict from elected officials.

P.S: Apparently along with the word Nigger, the word Niggerguy, and Niggerboy have also been banned, along with Muffintop, and, "Group Orgy". In a controversial move to stop fat women from cutting themselves, and to slow the spread of aids.

http://digg.com/people/ Kansas_Woman_Sat_on_Boyfriend_s_Toilet_for_2_years

I was on Digg earlier, where I was linked to an article titled:
Sheriff: Kansas woman sat on boyfriend's toilet for 2 years; didn't want to leave bathroom.

So naturally I responded to the story with:
"At least she was partially right staying in one place her whole life, but she must have mistaken the toilet seat for the kitchen."

Now heres where it gets interesting, I responded to the digg page with:

"Her parents grew her right, however she might have accidentally mistaken the toilet for the kitchen."

I was quickly dugg down to low negatives, however it appears it has gone up slightly since then. The funny part is, the person directly below me commented with:

"From the Article:
Guest: Straw Gate Wednesday, Mar 12, 2008 06:41 PM GMT-03:00
At least she was partially right staying in one place her whole life, she must have mistaken the toilet seat for the kitchen."

This comment quickly got dugg up, while mine stays at near zero.

So for all sexists, get someone else to say what you were thinking, and then just quote them, it seems people find it funnier when someone isn't sexist, and just quoting a sexist, then actually talking to a sexist.

I guess the US's inflation rate isn't as high compared to some others. 150,000% inflation, $1 a month ago is now worth 0.0006$.

HARARE, Zimbabwe — The official rate of annual inflation in Zimbabwe has rocketed past the 100,000 percent barrier, by far the highest in the world, the state central statistical office said Thursday. Second-place Iraq has inflation of just 60 percent, according to international estimates.

In a brief statement, the statistics office said inflation rose to 100,580 percent in January, up from 66,212 in December. A further breakdown of its calculations would be released later, officials said.

The new official figure was still well below the rate calculated by independent analysts. They estimate the real inflation is closer to 150,000 percent, citing supermarket receipts showing the price of chicken rose more than 236,000 percent to 15 million Zimbabwe dollars, or about $2.15, per kilogram (2.2 pounds) between January 2007 and January 2008. Slower increases in prices of sugar, tea and other basics brought down the overall average inflation.
The US economy's long predicted recession.

The US economy will go into a recession within the next 2-3 years no matter how the government tries to fix the situation, or how far negative the Fed lowers rates. The only thing the Fed and the government can feasibly do is delay and worsen a recession.

Reasons for the current recession:
Government Spending:
400 Billion in deficit spending for 2009(French Revolution anyone?)
$430 - 553.5 Billion Overseas military spending

Economy: 700 Billion US Trade Deficit and growing.

That means that roughly 1.1 trillion of US dollars is sent out of the country each year, and at least 400 billion is borrowed by our government from it's own people, or from countries like Russia or China.

2008-02/Strawgate-0001/Economic Growth - Trade Balance.jpg

The only way for equilibrium to be maintained is for US citizens or companies to:
A. Take out credit, balancing the money going out.
B. Sell Assets, which has been seen on a large scale as of late with companies being bought by foreigners.

When a country runs out of willing companies to sell assets, and the people are maxed out on credit, two things happen, the money supply retracts, causing the government to issue currency, causing inflation. There is less money staying in the economy meaning business will slowly downsize, causing unemployment.

Inflation + Rising unemployment = StagFlation!

Don't worry, the US won't go into a recession forever, the recession will end with either:
A. Government Intervention, delaying a recession and further worsening it.
B. A prolonged recession with a drop in the dollar reducing the services sector, and boosting the manufacturing sector within our country. Thus raising exports, and lowering imports, which has happened during every single US recession.

So as you may have read before, I have been working on a game called Super Power 2 lately. This is a progress update for what has been accomplished in the time since the last update.

So far I have added a neat comma and abbreviation system that will turn a number like 6,886,513,000 into 6,886 M. However if the number is 68,865,130,000, the number will be 68 B. Each slider is independent and can be easily adjusted. The new slider system is more efficient, and looks nicer then the old one.
Also included in the image is the new setup screen, this screen will be the first one the player sees, it is called the Chat Room. This Chat room includes a chatting area, as well as a Country Selection menu which pops down and up allowing a player to cycle through the available countries in the world. Another feature of this screen is the ability to choose your playing name, the default being your Key.
Another cool feature of this screen is a list of players, if they are playing, and the country they are playing. An unfinished feature of this screen is a send private button, which allows you to click on someone in the Participants area, and whatever you type, when you click Send Private, will go to that player only.
Will you conquer the world?

I've been working on a Super Power clone for a while now and so far im almost done with the military attack system and the economic system. So far I have decided to split the world into 20-22 different regions which are in the game geographical area. The only region that is currently added is the United States.

Current Region separations. http://www.byond.com/members/Strawgate/files/ Region%20Seperation.png

In order to conquer a region you must first conquer its individual countries, military battles are a 1 for 1 deal, you wont win instantly just because you've got a larger force. Military battles will be fought in waves, with larger forces arriving in more waves. The inclusion of waves allows the game to create a virtual battlefield which allows the game to track each waves speed, its attack range, and its distance from the closest enemy wave.

My biggest problem that I have encountered which has stunted the completion of this project has been the slider aspect to the budget. After finding that grid is relatively useless for use as anything other then storing objects that are 32x32 and text, I then was going to simply put an input box and let players enter data. I then found that I can add parameters to the command that is entered from a button, so I made a 21 button slider with 40-50 lines of code, and 21 buttons for each section, I will be able to use sliders for all budget related activities. Heres a screen shot!

New slider system that works almost flawlessly. Right click view image to see the full size image
