Poll: Would you like "Gaiden" chapters for "Twilight Herald"?

Yes 50% (7)
No 50% (7)

The polls are now closed.

While I was thinking things out today, I was thinking about something I planned for single player mode, but then I thought, "what would people think if they could 'play' that cutscene", then expanded it to "What if they could play the source of what caused that cutscene?"

It's worth noting that TH is huge, larger than the game itself.

I originally planned for the whole of TH (which is in itself 1 part of a 2 part series, TH:ANE being part 2) being 12 Books (which really after you remove the unnecessities, probably comes down to maybe 6-7 books worth, short books mind you), and a Game (which is what this is).

But now I see I don't want to make a book, and thought it might be better to just summarize the events of the Books as small "Gaiden" Games.

What I want to know is: would you play these side stories at all?

Of course, they would offer very good equipment, spells, etc. Beating them all would give a bigger prize overall.

But each gaiden in itself is hard, if not insanely so. It's like soloing the 5th chapter of TH, and with a non-customizeable character.

Each Gaiden pertains to backstory in TH, revealing events that will only be hinted upon by the NPCs (single player AND multi-player). And quite frankly, I can't think of any better way to reveal these events.

The downside of course, is you're using set characters, each gaiden will use a different battle system. HOWEVER, these Gaiden are the only way you can directly control these characters, who have special abilities and the sort you won't be able to play anyhow else.

So I want your opinions (especially your written ones on your opinions of how we should approach this, etc). Thank you for your time.

It's really hard to answer questions like this when you don't even have like a demo of the game available. In all honesty, all we know about this game is what we have heard from you about it. But we haven't seen anything or played anything for ourselves. So honestly, It makes it VERY difficult to give you an opinion on something we know very little about and have no experience with.

So to answer your question.... If the game had a lot of down time, such as training that causes a grind, or little RP when there are not a lot of players online, then yes., side stories that explain the game better is a good idea and might make things more interesting.

But really to give you a good idea of if this is actually needed we would need to have played the game. Even just a demo to understand it better than just how it has been described to us.
Well players COULD RP and make up their own stories, the worlds are massive in their own right.

And yeah, there probably will be grinding patches here and there. ESPECIALLY for those with the balls to try the 100-500 jump (those who SERIOUSLY try to go from their first chapter into chapter 5... fighting mobs MEANT for level 400s) and those who want to fight the Secret Bosses of each chapter (whom at least 2, as of now, are planned to be Gaiden Main characters).

Honestly Fug's going to make a new post soon on the progress on the code end. Maybe deleting this post/topic and making a new one, or editting it into this topic. I don't know yet, he might even post a new topic tomorrow.
O-o holy crap, this morning it was 2-3, now it's 5-3. Haha.

I still wish to see any written opinions on this.

I think there might be some benefit in starting with a small Gaiden in order to test your software and build interest for the larger projects. =)
Indeed, I think about which Gaiden will be the first true "Demo". What I might do is have the first demo/Gaiden be focused more on setting up the story for one of the chapters. Or maybe the whole game.

I know ONE Gaiden will only be accessable after doing a Full Runthrough (All 5 Chapters, including the "True" Ending for Chapter 5), as it has you literally playing the opposite side of a boss fight during the main game and sets up a Sequal Hook.

I'll provide more info once I've decided on "Gaiden chapter 1"

Anyhow I consider the idea a success. I would have only considered it not worth the time if 25% or less voted for it, so it's closed as of now at 7-7.
