Keywords: herald, twilight
Our pixel artist, Zane, has decided he might most likely leave project Twilight Herald for multiple reasons. I have no ill feelings towards him, as he came to us and said it very plainly as it is.

What's a shame is this means yet another pixel artist must walk out the door. More than likely, Twilight Herald will fade and die as time passes.

We're very sorry to let any people down that were looking forward to seeing our project in action.

That fuggen sux!
Are there any lessons you learned from this? I'm sure other people have run into the same problem, maybe you can figure out a way to avoid it...

Sympathize yo.. its painful to see your countless hours and efforts wasted..

On another note.. try and find other pixel artists.. maybe it's not all for the worst.
Forum, I think you shouldn't try to insult us. Really, what you said comes right off as an insult and pissed me off, however I calmed down so I could post this.

There was no real "problems". The only "problem" was as Zane put it, the stress of all the Art being on his shoulders was too much. We've been trying for months to get him support PAs, to 0 success. You'll find multiple topics on BYOND and multiple attempts on this blog, to no success. We've basically PMed everyone we know on BYOND.

The ones who did offer? Brought forth beyond horrible results (...I won't even say) and most didn't try, at all. One for example, was kind enough to have over a month and have nothing to show for it at all, because he "swapped OS" to Vista.

Where we went wrong was expecting people to put forth even a bad attempt at Isometric, much less expect people to be willing to just help with no immediate promise of payment.

Sadly, whatever I did learn is moot. If Zane truly is quitting, I'm shutting down TH (simply because most people who want the game are all over it because of the graphics).

And as a personal promise I made to myself, Project TH is my last gambit, I'm quitting all attempts at designing BYOND games after this. So it's a moot point to 'learn' anything.

Did you ever maybe think the work load was too much for a pixel artist with such low experience?
BYOND is a game development community. The benefit of having a community is that you can share your experiences with others so that people can learn from them. I'm genuinely asking if there is any lesson you learned from this so that someone else may be able to avoid the same problem. Maybe something like "get a complete tileset from an artist instead of 3 half-complete ones so if they have to leave the project, at least you have a complete tileset you can continue to use". I'm sure there's something you'd have done differently.

I wasn't trying to insult you (you'd know if I was trying >:-D). I've suggested in the past that your development methods were questionable, so maybe you were anticipating an "I told you so", but I certainly didn't say it.
Told you! How many times did I tell everyone ZANE IS LAZY!!! He works for a bit then quits. I knew this even without having him working with me, cuz I'm a wizard! Anyway I was really looking forward to this, but shame on yall for not listening to me.

uhm?remind me.when have i ever worked with you?and i really im insulted that you flung that in my face whoever you are.i took a try at something no one else would even bother attempting.i learned a lot from it;my limits and such.I attempted to provide art for this project by myself.I spent a total of 8 hours plus on a single animation.

I spent more than 12 hours a day pixeling for TH at one point in development.all while miraculously still having a social life..I wouldn't be surprised if you were cyberlord trying to slander my name again.since he made multiple attempts to impersonate me.i suggest you get your facts right before you go around making a fool of yourself sir.

^^^^^
And plus people been tellin me things.
people will tell you anything you want to hear, remember that.ive been here 4 years developing constantly within that time frame.you've been here less than a year.you're opinion of me really doesn't mean squat at the end of the day.
Sad to hear, I was looking forward to this.
This was supposed to be the next big RPG along with Eternia, damnit!

Project isn't dead, yet.

There are 2 things that would flat out revive it:

1- An influx of New PAs. Willing to wait for the first chapter (AT LEAST! Which itself has a good deal of material to play) to recieve payment from the donations. This will allow Zane to relax and not be so stressed!
Bitchers and whiners who claim that it's Iso and 8 directional Art may not Apply, YUT PUT :<

And each must be quite capable. Not amazing, even HALF of Zane's quality would be amazing, if he recontinues, then he can simply upgrade their shapes and details, which would be far easier for him than designing EVERYTHING from scratch.

2- Zane needs to relax, for an undetermined about of time. Then he has to choose, by himself, to continue. This is necessary or else #1 is pointless.

Project TH's popularity has sprung up simply because of Zane's Artwork, in all honesty, Zane IS Project TH.
I don't mind, I simply provided the medium of a Multiverse for him to openly create. He took it to amazing levels. If he quits, then it falters, his art is the pull that brought in most of the fans.

IF it fails (Zane quits), I will write out the general summaries of each of the stories of the 5 chapters, including the Secret Final Boss.
The story should not be lost, I think everyone deserves to know what would have been.
