Poll: The only resolution available for the next few tournaments should be:

800x600 20% (4)
1024x768 80% (16)

The polls are now closed.

Getting around to remaking the Efencea GUI for the second time, and I need your help! Go ahead and vote what size you think would be most commonly used or best suited for you. This will be the initial, and only, resolution available in the next release.

I will be starting on this tomorrow morning, thus the closing date for the poll will be April 11, 2008 around 12 PM EST (-5 GMT). If you feel as though my poll choices are unfit, fell free to suggest your own with a comment.

Here's a teaser of the style:

That white space was to be reserved for a character portrait.

We're going full resolution sizes since the game will have fullscreen capability. So a person who has a maximum resolution of 800x600 can maximize the game window to view it properly.

We're also moving away from pop-ups.
Wow, the new style looks AMAZING! I love the little hexagons on the formation panel.
800x600 for the Hulu and whatever other program watchers out there.
Very stylish!

I cant think what it reminds me of
Poll Closed, 1024x768 it is.

Thanks for comments and votes.

No pop-ups? Are you going to get rid of just the built in pop-ups, or all pop-ups?

Last I knew, we never used any built-in pop-ups. I plan for all pop-ups in Efencea to be eliminated.

Go Germs & Toyota!

I cant think up a retarded name for him :(
1024x768 is much too large for your average casual gamer.

4x as many people thought otherwise, besides Efencea is a strategy game more so than a casual game.

BYOND games, web games, XBL games, they pretty much all fall into the casual category for not having deep storylines and cutting-edge graphics. I'm not judging your game, I'm just trying to throw out some perspective.

1024x768 is the resolution I'm using now. Windowed games which aren't maximized yet take up my entire screen are incredibly annoying. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being able to scroll the camera around a map which is smaller than the window size.

What's wrong with playing a game that takes your entire screen when it has full-screen capability? Read Comment #1, please. That applies to 1024x768 as well. The problem is there isn't a magical way to appeal to everyone. So, we'll be making multiple resolutions. For now, you'll just have to play in full-screen mode.

[edit] Besides, Efencea has cutting edge graphics and will have a, hopefully, deep storyline. Cutting edge for BYOND at least.
Bejeweled and Chess, both very casual games anyone can jump into. Yet they can be incredibly complex when you put in a little forethought and start using some strategy. At what point do they cease to be casual and become hardcore?

This argument can go on for days, yet it isn't the point I'm trying to make. The message I was trying to convey was most people tend to view anything which isn't a AAA title as a casual game.

I guess I'm just not 'most people'. =D
BYOND has more than one guild, mind you. We don't just have Casual into which all games fall.

D:

Our story and graphics aren't cool enough to be a "real" strategy game?

FML.
It's still a strategy game, I never said it wasn't. I was just saying it's casual.

As I stated before, 1024x768 is much too large for your average casual gamer.

As per your pager crusade about BYOND games all being considered casual games, BYOND is full of casual gamers. This said, our poll should tell what casual gamers think, since the voters consist of the BYOND community, who are, by your definition, casual gamers. Thereby, your view on this topic is mislead.
