How do you imagine and pixel the side of a character? I see a character and I cannot pixel them from a side. How do iconners do it?
Well, one way you could do any character in any position is to do a concept drawing of it. Front, side, quarter views. Then maybe some kind of action pose. Once you have the concept is a matter of translating the visual information from the drawn medium to the pixel.
If you come in contact with humans on a daily basis, it comes natural. =/
What about other living beings or non-humans? How am I supposed to know their side views?
Train your imagination so that you can think of pictures in 3D :)
Easiest way is getting into applied geometrics

Did you seriously just ask that question?

If you don't know what something looks like, GOOGLE IT. The only reason you know what Patrick looked like is because you saw an IMAGE of him. Go to Google and get IMAGES of everything else.
Google doesn't always show the side of a character.
What is it that you're looking for sideways?
Anime character
I just Googled about 5 different animes and found side views of the main characters.
This link alone shuts his post down. Easy as hell: http://tiny.cc/6l1agw
