Well first off I'd like to state that there will probably be no weekly update this Saturday. Angie's grandmother's been hospitalized for a few serious diabetic-related conditions and will probably be there the majority of the week. Between visiting her and work we only have time to eat and sleep, so I doubt I'll get much progress done (Been writing in my book tho!)

Still in the process of designing and naming the skills and mastery trees for each style, so alot of that can be hand-written anyway.

In other news, during dinner Angelica and I were watching a little E3 and we caught glimpse of Xbox 360's attempt to steal the Wii fan base. It's definitely interesting looking if it lives up to what they are speculating with it, of course everything on the TV is prerecorded and synced with actors, but the whole concept looks impressive... Hopefully they improved on Vista's terrible voice recognition, either way I'll probably buy one if a decent fighting game is developed like the one in the commercial. [LINK]... All I see is coming out of this is alot of people kicking/hitting their TV's or people around them, if you thought the incompatibility between the WiiMotes and overexcitement was bad, just wait until it's full body.

Personally I hope it lives up to the hype, the biggest thing that caught my attention was the Milo Demo.

Some people speculate that it'll take away the Wii's fan base, but personally what I'm looking forward to the most is Punch Out for the Wii... lol

Well bed time, blah. I'll try to get something out this week but no promises, I'm freakin exhausted.

Punch-Out!! Wii is already out. :)
But alas I don't own it :(
Milo looks interesting, but I don't see any real applications.

MAG is what caught my attention ;)
People in the milo video's comments are talking about terminator and skynet.

Also, I wonder what happens if you get on every day at 4 o clock and beat that kid with a baseball bat.
Video was removed due to ToU violation. >_>
It looks incredibly impressive...

The thing to always remember with this sort of thing, though, is that regardless of how much they emphasize that it is completely free-form control, and that it mimics your every movement, and that they don't have to program movements in because it does everything that you do, and blah blah blah, is that they're greatly exaggerating...lol

The same types of claims were made about the Wii before it was released, and look at just how short it actually falls in reality (the WiiMote motion control isn't nearly as complete, fast, or precise as it needs to be; even to the point that they have to release an add-on upgrade peripheral to make it more precise)

Even the live demos I just watched in this video seem slightly jerky, and a little out of sync... It's definitely not bad, and at some points, it looks spot on, but it's still far from perfect... Yes, perhaps it's simply because it's still new and it will improve as they tweak it before release, but even so, I doubt we'll ever really see the kinds of things in this video, at least not in that level of precision...

As for Milo, there's a very crucial thing to remember about AI in general: they only do what we program them to do... Sure, we can program AI that learns and adapts, perhaps even to the point that some emergent behavior occurs, but behind all of that emergent behavior and learning and adaptation has to lie an incredibly deep framework of rules, hard programmed into the AI and its environment... And to get complete, honest to goodness, replicate-a-real-human artificial intelligence, you essentially need to recreate the structure of reality itself in your program... Every little thing that governs how we live and think needs to be recreated programmatically in order to support an AI that will truly mimic us...

That's why it's never been done (and likely never will), the sheer amount of work involved (not to mention processing at runtime) is immensely prohibitive...

So unless the people behind him have thought of virtually every possible scenario, every possible input, every possible nuance of emotion, every possible anything, (and implemented it all in code, even if just in supporting "rules" to guide his learning patterns and reactions) even dear Milo will be limited...

The above is not to say that the stuff they're doing (and claiming to do, and pushing for in the future) isn't extremely cool and likely pretty mind blowing and sophisticated, it's just to point out that everything we create will have its limits, based on what was put into it... And since no one has the resources or drive to go the full distance, everything we get out of this sort of thing will fall short of our expectations, and all of the hype they pump out about it...

I'm thinking of buying the PS3 JUST to play MAG, it sounds awesome.

It has a lot of other good titles, though! Infamous is supposedly very good (I have yet to get it, I was thinking about it earlier, but the places I were at were all sold out), and Prototype also looks interesting.
