Currently I have finalized the Main/Basic style that every player initializes with, and am in the process of implementing knock-backs, stuns and debuffs before I proceed with the next style.
In all, once I get everything defined I will host a small series of combat-only testing sessions (with no customization, saving, etc...) to make sure this step is polished before moving onto the next one, so hopefully it'll satisfy your cravings and may even cause a large amount of people to message me with hate mail because I'm hosting an unfinished game... I see both results happening. These sessions will probably be limited to 10 or so players at a time anyhow, and will allow people to help me test an ugly, raw version of the end result (I'm thinking of setting up an arena-style area to test). I'll post more information about these sessions upon completion of this defining and rough draft drawing process.
With that said I'd like to share a few screen captures of me tangoing with my AI (Yes that is nearly completed as well, and rather simple given the combat system).
Having found a civilian I wish to pummel for my test, I decided to raise my power since I wish to take an energy attack focus.
My poorly-drawn temporary energy shot is about to land, finishing this guy off, and awarding me EXP.
This time I'm being bullied, I'll leave this fight to auto-attacks in offensive mode!
EDIT: Also note the ring around the target is a different color. Yellow means the target isn't hostile towards you, red means they are, blue is also an option and that's for non-attackables.
After my last combat I was ambushed by a wandering 'bully', who tried to beat upon my hurt body.
Luckily for me I just slipped into defensive mode, increasing my chance to avoid a hit and reducing damage taken... Sadly I can't auto-attack in this stage, so my damage output has been severely sacrificed.
You may have noticed that I seem to have alot of skills for a newly created level 1. Not to worry, when the game is in actual "play mode" every player will only start with 1 melee attack, 1 passive racial ability, and 1 active racial* ability. The game progression is designed to teach you to play it as you go, so simple an DBZer could do it!
I'm a big softy to dumbed down openings to a game, that may insult the intelligence of the common gamer.
Anyway, that's the update. And that's an alpha look at the combat system, I may make it prettier before those testing sessions... I may not. But I'll gladly keep you folks posted!
Next week, I'll hopefully have a video or something. And at least some clothes, eyes, and hair to make it look better.
P.S: Comment, for I am an attention whore who lubs his criticism.
