If you look at the article, they're redisplaying images that people are seeing - that is, they're reconstructing them from the visual cortex.
That's somewhat better understood than the deeper layers of the brain. I'm not expecting anyone to be able to figure out what I'm thinking from brain scans for quite some time - try next millenium, assuming we're still around, still have a functioning civilisation, and I have descendants that can be brain scanned... That last one is a big assumption.

Agreed. I normally wake up feeling totally enlightened about a particular thing because of my dreams, then I forget them and end up losing that particular answer or idea. It frustrates me SO BADLY.
