Hi everyone Xuiryus here. I'm not really active on byond these days but I figure some people may still keep an eye on things around here.

Basically I'm doing a bit of shameless self-advertisement at the moment. I've basically been working hard with my writing in attempts to become a professional game journalist. I've had some moderate success through contact with PR companies/publishers/developers and stuff who basically send me games to write about. Maybe one day I'll actually make some money from it but for the most part it's just a so called "professional" hobby.

Anyways you can check me out here http://www.thehighlandgamer.com/ i'd love for anyone to have a read and maybe get in contact and say what you like and stuff.

I can be reached at scott@thehighlandgamer.com

Peace everyone, enjoy byond.

Yes despite being pretty inactive on the website and blog I am still here.

Before I get started the chances of S19 being developed any further at this point in time is pretty much 0% so please don't leave comments asking.

As the title says I want to get back into isometric pixel art, I haven't touched it since I managed to get my hands on a preview copy of the isometric byond update.

Basically I want to know the correct way to work with isometrics within byond if someone could point me towards some tutorial/demo I'd really appreciate it (demo for byond not how to create isometric pixel art, I can already do that.)

Here's some random isometric stuff I made in the past, please note that I don't have much experience with this style.

- an RTS style power plant

- Some more practice for isometrics.

I had a couple of byond compatible isometric turfs lying around but I've since lost/deleted them.
So I've started my own little game review blog. I realize I could review the game and post them on this blog but I prefer an external and more centered blog devoted to gaming.

If you're interested head on over to The Highland Gamer and check it out. The process has been slow at the moment due to not having much spare time but slow improvement is better than no improvement.

Anyways check it out and if you have anything to say please comment on the highland gamer :)

Thought I'd make a little post with some very brief S19 art I made in the past.

Some of this stuff is still subject to change and may or may not be added to S19 in the future.

Train Map
Description: A 2 level map consisting of an interior carriages and exterior carriages of a train.
Chance of being added to S19: Relatively high.

A Jedi Knight
Description: A Jedi player icon for use in the small team deathmatch based Jedi vs Sith mode.
Chance of being added to S19: Maybe, not yes but not no

A Japanese Highschool
Description: A japanese high school map based on anime designs.
Chances of being added to S19: Extremely low

I'm sure I'll have some other half-made things lying around that we may hope to add in the future but for now here's a couple of things you might like.
With all the commotion going out at the moment due to BYOND's new game review processes and ripped games and fan games being buried and the original games coming to the front I find myself asking a question.

What about the "original" games that use ripped resources? Now I'm not going to mention any specific games but just from looking at the front page of BYOND there are at least 3 games on the front page that use ripped material.

Now although the game itself may be original in every way, I'd like to know the specific details of using ripped material from less popular sources, for example RPG maker chipsets.

Is it a simple matter of original game trumps ripped resource or will a little proof of original ownership have these titles sunk with the anime rips?

I made myself a sleek new CSS yesterday nothing complicated just nice and tidy. Also I'm about to delete my pager list as to remove inactive/alternative/non-wanted keys from my massive bloody list.

IF you have me added I will see this and re-add you. If not then I'm sure it's just destiny that we weren't meant to talk :P

If you want me to add you to my pager just add me now or leave a comment and I'll add you.
Now I'll start by saying... I've been on byond a long time (Some might say too long) and in my time I've always been used to the 32x32 tile based gameplay that 90% of byond uses.

However it seems I've somehow missed the part of byond where people can create amazingly fluid games (more specifically side-scrolling) and I am for the lack of a better word astonished.

I feel I may be a bit late to the party on this one but seeing this on byond makes me so happy and I really want to get involved, don't know how but somehow! I've been fiddling with Forum_account's Sidescroller Library and it just feels so great to play around with, I may attempt a serious game out of it however due to my extreme lack of coding knowledge I don't see me getting very far.

One other point I wish to make (again on sidescrollers) I've recently stumbled upon Forum_accounts awesome little game A Miner Adventure and I am seriously surprised that this game isn't on the tip of everyone's tongue and being hosted 24/7 with 10,000 people on at the same time, as it is just an awesome little slice of byond packed into a neat little package.

Pladas made a kind and honest comment on Sunday the 19th today on how he likes the game and how bad the community is.

This is a point I have to agree on and something I want to strive to change. My question is this though, how do you improve a community?

Do you add swear filters?
Constantly punish people for being an ass?

Or will something as simple as an ignore command fix things?

Questions I find myself asking while trying to come up with a way to fix the broken community building within S19.
