I think he's trying to make a satiric point that with enough thought, a parent can find a balanced approach to discipline that doesn't involve either totally spineless parents or ruthless beatings.
The "skull flick" was my dad's weapon of choice, because spankings just made me scowl and turn beet-red, but I'd do just about anything to avoid that little ping. I look forward to passing this wisdom to a new generation.

Really? I read it more as a message to the whiny kids who have no clue how good they've got it. But that's the beauty of Maddox... you get out of his page what you bring to it!

Makes sense -- though the two interpretations aren't mutually exclusive. It's a floor polish AND a dessert topping!

I'm starting to suspect that this is a standard feature of written documents, regardless of the author's skill or intention. But at the same time, there can be an "X factor" that gives you some amount of lagniappe you didn't bring with you. At any rate, I've been reading Maddox's archive for the past hour and I've been getting a kick out of it...
My parents never hit me, but the streets fixed me up good. Sometimes the only way to get a child to listen is to smack them, I don't mean like beating the crap outta them, but just maybe a spanking or a smack across the face, a scared kid is a listening kid, sadly.
If they deserve it, beat the crap out of them. Children do a lot of bad things and no one realizes it. For instance, the fact that they will steal, lie, destroy property, and spit on my dog, is something i would beat them for. And do! :D
Parent view:
There isn't anything wrong with spanking your children, it teaches them displine and NOT to do something bad.
Remember: never take **** from your kids. You make payments on the house, utilities, their clothes, school, and their food. You own them. If they don't like it, they can move out. If you love your kids, love them enough to beat them so that they don't grow up to be idiots.
He makes a very good point here.
I have a modest proposal as well, why not try looking up Johnathon Swift for some parenting advice, I swear to you he will put Maddox's lessons in their place... Just... don't hold me to it...
As for maddox, I sent a few e-mails to Beth (The one who started the petition to shut down Maddox... If you don't mind mild language and some sexist comments, it's a good read: this
He makes some good points if you are willing to read expecting him to make a point by deliberately taking the argument too far.
...or so I've heard >_>
