The Ogre was the initial release boss and is now gone. He may make a return sometime in the future for a limited time, but now we have The Orb, the boss for Area 1.

Now, as for Area 2, that's up to you. (Kinda rhymed)

Create a boss for the second area. Draw it in the same style (or lack there of) as the rest of the game. Give it a personality, a name and draw a medal for players beating it. Post the boss' information here as well as a picture of him/her. The winner makes it into the game as Area 2's boss. I may also select another boss even if it doesn't win to make a guest appearance. The winning creator will have their key posted to the UI when the boss is encountered. Happy Pixeling!
Version 2 is going to remain similar to version 1 that there will still be no ability to attack, you have to use your environment to evade and trick the various mobs in the world to attack themselves. This version will also bring more difficult puzzles, more non-dense trees to pathfind through and a new boss, The Orb.

The game is now nearly 3x as long as it was with the initial release of The Ogre. Now, The Ogre is gone. The Ogre's Sword is gone. And you're left with a new mission with some familiar areas.

One Bit is a 1-Bit Adventure RPG which is currently in early stages of development. Currently, the game has one boss, The Ogre. If you defeat the boss, you can participate in the Ogre Sword Event and find the sword possessed by the ogre. This event is only taking place for 24 hours, then the sword and the medal will be gone.

In One Bit, you cannot attack. You must use cunning as well as elusiveness to evade the various mobs and traps you will encounter. If you can do so well, you will meet The Giant Evil Ogre face-to-face. Defeat this foe, and you will be eligible to participate in the Ogre Sword Event.

Happy Questing!

Note: After the 24 hours, the hub_password will be changed. Therefore, even if you have the event version of the game, the medal will not be awarded.

I was recently working on a project, converting the tile movement into pixel movement and realized there wasn't an equivalent for get_step() to use for pixel movement.

I looked through the forums and found a post about it in Developer Help (although I cannot find it now.) and it helped me to create a workaround. I thought I would share this workaround with you.

proc/get_bounds(mob/M, var/boundz_x=0, var/boundz_y=0)
if(M.dir == EAST)
boundz_x = M.bound_width
else if(M.dir == WEST)
boundz_x = -M.bound_width

else if(M.dir == NORTH)
boundz_y = M.bound_height
else if(M.dir == SOUTH)
boundz_y = -M.bound_height

return obounds(M, boundz_x, boundz_y)

Here is where you can see an example of this proc being utilized (for reference purposes.):

mob/verb
Punch()
flick("punch", usr)
for(var/mob/M in get_bounds(usr))
M.health = 0
M << "<b>You dead!"
M.Die()

If anyone can find the post I used to create this procedure, please share. I'd like to reference it!

[Edit]

Since get_bounds() returns obounds(), it searches for a mob within the bounds you are facing.

Example: If your character is facing EAST, it searches for a mob within your bounds_width infront of you. It then returns obounds(M, M.bounds_width, 0). The 0 within the args makes sure it doesn't search any pixels higher or lower than your mob's current location within the tile. The same is said for searching for a mob when you are facing either NORTH or SOUTH.

I found this webpage while I was searching for the tools described. If you're looking for web hosting and you want it cheap, try this link.

Since I'm no genius and not the most computer-friendly person you'll meet, I ask for some of you more experienced members to let me know if this seems like a pretty decent deal. Also, I wanted to share the link for anyone that was looking for something similar. :)

Yeah, I suck at anything related to art. Roleplay World could use some hub graphics.
If you would like to create something and submit it here, I would be happy to give the artist of the chosen graphics a free 3 month subscription.
I just updated the game and added a few, small improvements, taking the game a little closer to where I envision it being. Once the game is a little closer, I will be distributing it outside of BYOND in several (already selected and heavily stalked by me) roleplaying sites.

v0020 (15 November 2012)

o Added a year system (The month and year is selected by the host at time of setting up the server)

o Added 3 skill slots in the players' custom character sheet

o Core system has been changed a lot. The core is handled much more nicely now and is modular. This will aide in future updates.

o Added a subscription system
-Subscribers can add images to their character sheet
-Hosts that are subscribers (will soon) unlock the full game. The game is playable to non-subscriber hosts, however, there (will be) a few advantages to the host being subscribed

The game is ever-evolving and will continue to develop. Currently, all I have is the bare-bones of what the game will be. Feel free to drop in and give me your input on what you would like to see implemented and what you'd like to see changed.

Also, I'd like to hear some ideas on what you think the color scheme should look like. The current interface is really bland and could use an artist's touch.

Last night, I began working on expanding how the game works. I expanded customization of the player's character as well as how a few of the core procedures handle running and updating the server.

New role playing tools are being developed right now. The next version should be ready by the middle of next week ( since I have such little time to work on it. I usually do MAYBE an hour every couple of days ) for a larger release. I've been working a lot lately.

P.S.
To all of the text role players out there, drop in to this post and suggest features and role play tools you would like to see implemented to help you run YOUR world YOUR way.
